The Forgotten Art of Being Human
We live in a world where it has become easy to judge and difficult to understand.
A world where people are often measured by a single mistake, a rumor, an accusation, a disagreement, or even by the opinions of others. We have become quick to label, quick to condemn, and sometimes painfully slow to listen.
Yet every person carries a story that no outsider can fully see.
Behind every avatar, profile, username, face, or voice is a human being with experiences, wounds, dreams, fears, hopes, victories, and failures. None of us arrived at this moment through the same road. We were raised in different cultures, different countries, different families, and different belief systems. We learned different lessons and carry different truths.
Why then do we so often expect everyone to think the same?
Why do we become angry when someone sees the world differently?
Diversity is not only about appearance, nationality, or language. True diversity is also the ability to accept that another person may hold a different view of life without becoming our enemy.
The greatest strength of humanity has never been conformity.
It has always been our ability to coexist despite our differences.
What troubles me most is how easily people forget the value of loyalty.
Loyalty is a rare treasure.
A loyal person does not always agree with you. A loyal person is not perfect. A loyal person may make mistakes. But loyalty means standing by principles, standing by friends, standing by truth as best as one understands it, and standing by commitments even when circumstances become difficult.
Yet today, loyalty is often questioned before it is understood.
Trust is replaced by suspicion.
Conversation is replaced by assumption.
Character is replaced by gossip.
How many good people have been hurt because others decided to believe a story before they knew the person?
How many friendships have been lost because people listened to rumors instead of speaking directly to one another?
How many communities have damaged themselves by creating division where understanding could have existed?
We often speak about building better worlds, better communities, and better societies.
Yet no better world can be built on constant suspicion.
No community becomes stronger by humiliating its own members.
No person becomes wiser by hurting another.
Perhaps we should ask ourselves a simple question:
What kind of human being do I want to be?
Not what others are doing.
Not what others deserve.
Not what others believe.
But what kind of person do I choose to become?
Do I choose kindness when it is difficult?
Do I choose patience when I am frustrated?
Do I choose honesty when lies are easier?
Do I choose understanding when judgment is tempting?
Life itself is already challenging enough.
Every one of us is fighting battles that others cannot see.
Every one of us carries burdens invisible to the outside world.
Every one of us is limited by time.
One day our lives will end.
When that day comes, very few people will remember who won an argument.
Very few people will remember who complained the loudest.
Very few people will remember who was right on every issue.
But people will remember how we treated them.
They will remember who offered a helping hand.
Who listened.

Hello folks.. I have a situation that's been brought to my attention. I loaded a 2 year old OAR of an old region I had, where I had a newbies shop for new musicians coming to open sim.. the idea was to collect free starter stuff and have it in one place, because open sim is quite confusing to people who have never been here before..
So.. when I reopened virtual melody, I loaded the old oar.. and one some of the items.. it changed the name of the creator on some of the items to MY name! I did not create these items.. I do not own these items.. I even have poster boards up explaining that the items in the shop were all collected for free on the hypergrid and that I don't own them.. This has never happened to me before and I'm seriously upset that it's happened now. Has anyone else had any issues with loading old oars like this? I have to go through all of the items now to make sure my name is not set as owner! To the people, who do create these items, I'm truly very sorry that this has happened. I will fix it!

Happy New Year to all Opensim grid owners and users alike. I just want to add my thoughts as a few others have on the past year. We have all seen growth or maybe a decline in our grids and even so far as to have our grids banned by other grid owners. Isn't it bad enough real life has tossed us a pandemic to deal with. Losing Family & Friends we have cherished for years to a sickness we can't get control of. We all come online to escape real life even if just for a few hours, to forget our troubles and just have that bit of time to relax, have fun ... and maybe meet a new friend or two.
I recently had one of my users come to me and say why am I banned from such and such grid? My answer of course is "I have no idea no one has contacted me about any issues." I can tell you this ....if I have an issue with a user visiting my grid I am going to ban the offending user/users not the grid they came from. Banning the whole grid for the unfortunate actions of 1 or 2 users in my opinion is childish and very unfair to all the good users from that grid that have the same lets have fun and meet new people and share what each of us have to offer mind set. I and my partner have and will always try to offer a peaceful and enjoyable experience for users of our grid. If you have had an issue with one of our users please don't ban the grid ban the offending user/users and please feel free to contact me regarding any user from the grid. I am one of those No Tolerance for crap people that will not stand for a user tarnishing our grid by doing something they shouldn't. They want to do that crap it's time for them to move on find someplace else where it's acceptable or get their own grid. We have already banned and deleted one user for unacceptable activity and I am not afraid to do it again if needed.
I like to think and I'm sure I have shown to many visitors I am a very reasonable person to deal with. And I try to act on issues ASAP so the grid is enjoyable for users and visitors alike. See something you don't agree with message me and lets talk. Have a user issue message me and let me know so we can get any issues resolved quickly so we can get back to enjoying our grids and members.

I recently had one of my users come to me and say why am I banned from such and such grid? My answer of course is "I have no idea no one has contacted me about any issues." I can tell you this ....if I have an issue with a user visiting my grid I am going to ban the offending user/users not the grid they came from. Banning the whole grid for the unfortunate actions of 1 or 2 users in my opinion is childish and very unfair to all the good users from that grid that have the same lets have fun and meet new people and share what each of us have to offer mind set. 1- Imported all old Windlight Sky set from Firestorm and changed to EEP;
2- Added also timezoned EEP for all seasons (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter), between seasons (Spring/Summer, Summer/Autumn etc) and for each season or between seasons, all kind of days (clear, cloudy, rainy or foggy) , all ready to use!
3- Some nice textures for moon, Sun and Water included for those who like to customize the skies and give an extra touch on SIM.

It is with profound sadness that we have to announce the passing of our beloved Ashton "Numa" Nobilis. Ashton was not only the lead designer and one of the owners of Littlefield Grid, but he was one of the early developers of Opensimulator.
There are no words to describe the pain I feel at the loss of one of my best friends in the world and a man I called brother. We will remember him always. He was a wonderful and brilliant man, and he will be sorely missed.
We will be holding a memorial service for him at Stonehaven Island later this week with a date to be determined.
God bless you Ashton, I love you my brother, and I will miss you dearly.

Monster dump of 900GB in size:
IMPORTING A HUGE MYSQL/MARIADB DUMP FROM WINDOWS TO DEBIAN
This guide describes a proven and stable way to import a very large
MySQL/MariaDB dump (hundreds of GB to ~1 TB) from a Windows server into
MariaDB on a Debian server.
The procedure avoids double disk usage, survives network disconnects,
and prevents common errors like “server has gone away”.
----------------------------------------------------------
PREREQUISITES
----------------------------------------------------------
- Windows Server with dump.sql (e.g. D:.sql) - Debian
Server with enough free disk space - MariaDB installed and
running - Root access to MariaDB - Network access between
Windows and Debian
----------------------------------------------------------
1. WINDOWS: SHARE THE DUMP DIRECTORY
- The dump file is located on drive D:
- Share the drive (or directory) via Windows file sharing (SMB)
- Example: Share name: d Path: D:
- Grant read permissions to the Administrator account
----------------------------------------------------------
2. DEBIAN: MOUNT WINDOWS SHARE (CIFS/SMB)
----------------------------------------------------------
Install required tools: apt install -y cifs-utils screen
Create mount point: mkdir -p /mnt/windowsdump
Mount the Windows share: mount -t cifs //WINDOWS_IP/d
/mnt/windowsdump -o username=Administrator,vers=3.0
Verify: ls -lh /mnt/windowsdump You should see dump.sql.

3. PREPARE MARIADB FOR LARGE IMPORTS
Create the target database: mysql -u root -p CREATE DATABASE griddb;
EXIT;
Create configuration file: nano
/etc/mysql/mariadb.conf.d/99-bigimport.cnf

net_write_timeout=600 wait_timeout=28800 interactive_timeout=28800
Restart MariaDB: systemctl restart mariadb
Verify setting: mysql -u root -p -e “SHOW VARIABLES LIKE
‘max_allowed_packet’;”

Reposting this as it is an important fix any grid can and should run. There is a patch in core Opensimulator code as of 2/15 to allow outfits to load correctly without breaking links. This has been a bug forever, and was caused by loading IARs. For the those grids that do not use core's latest 0.9.3.1 dev (PBR), I have SQL for grid owners to fix their broken links in outfits. DreamGrid has this patch for future uploads, and also will run this SQL to repair all old outfits. You need do nothing except update to the latest DreamGrid 6.02 (Non PBR) or 7.02 (PBR). DreamGrid will automatically fix old as well as IAR uploads, even in V6 series which is Opensim 0.9.2 ( Non PBR )
Mysql SQL code is this:
use robust; //with whatever your database is. For standalones it may be 'opensim' as there is no robust.
show databases; // will show you which databases you have and their names.
use robust;
update inventoryfolders set type = 47 where foldername='My Outfits' and type = -1;

GET A TEXT MESSAGE ON YOUR CELL PHONE WHEN A REGION GOES DOWN.
How to get text messages, emails, pushover, telegram, and jabber alerts if a region goes down on your grid. Well it's easy. Download servermonitor from https://github.com/phpservermon/phpservermon Next unzip it and upload it to your linux box. I put the files in /var/www/html/servermonitor.
Next get on your web browser and go to websiteaddress.com/servermonitor/install.php Fill in the questions. Set up a web database of your choosing. Create a user and a password. I did this: create database servers; create user 'someone'@'localhost' identified by 'password'; grant all on servers.* to 'someone'@'localhost'; flush priveleges;
Once that is set up, it's a breeze. Use the web interface to add servers to your list. For regions just enter a service and the port number the region is on. example service, custom port, 8007 Then select how you want to be notified if the region goes down. e.g. email or sms text message, etc. Finally using crontab -e enter * * * * * /usr/bin/php /var/www/html/servermonitor/cron/status.cron.php You are done. Now if one of your regions goes offline you will know about it in 60 seconds. Also you can add websites to the list to be monitored, mail servers, any kind of server really. It has a looooong list of server types that can be added. (very handy). Additionally you can click on a region and see it's uptime plotted hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly as well as LATENCY. We all know how important latency is for showing lag. :) Enjoy!
