Hello folks.. I have a situation that's been brought to my attention. I loaded a 2 year old OAR of an old region I had, where I had a newbies shop for new musicians coming to open sim.. the idea was to collect free starter stuff and have it in one place, because open sim is quite confusing to people who have never been here before..
So.. when I reopened virtual melody, I loaded the old oar.. and one some of the items.. it changed the name of the creator on some of the items to MY name! I did not create these items.. I do not own these items.. I even have poster boards up explaining that the items in the shop were all collected for free on the hypergrid and that I don't own them.. This has never happened to me before and I'm seriously upset that it's happened now. Has anyone else had any issues with loading old oars like this? I have to go through all of the items now to make sure my name is not set as owner! To the people, who do create these items, I'm truly very sorry that this has happened. I will fix it!

I'm beginning to suspect Rogue didn't make all the content on her sim. But I could be wrong.

When I read the http://opensimulator.org/wiki/OpenSim_Archives the switch for including Creator ID on the Save oar command is mentioned as being --home, not --publish as Josh was mentioning. Hopefully the information in the Wiki is up to date but a couple of ways to check is to type "help archives" in the console. There are also the Dev meetings at 11 am SLT Tuesdays @ Dev Outreach in Osgrid where you can ask the Dev's directly.

I've read somewhere that there's an option that preserves creators' credentials upon making an OAR of a sim. It's optional, it's usually off, and many don't switch it on. Linda Kellie made all her OARs this way; if anyone wants to fix this, I've got about five UUIDs of hers, including two or three for Clutterfly.
In other words: If you load an OAR, and everything is set to you as the creator, you can't do anything anymore. It's too late. It's the OAR itself that's faulty.

If this setting actually exists (I've never had a sim of my own, so I don't know for sure, only from hearsay), you can only change it in the settings prior to creating an OAR.
If the OAR already exists, it's set in stone. The only way to change it, again, if this setting exists, is to teleport back to the sim from which the OAR was made and make a new OAR. If this sim is no more, there's no chance to fix this anymore.

When I discovered OS in 2015, there was not all the stuff we have now. I thought the owner of the grid I had landed on was the most creative person I had ever met as literally every single thing on his grid was created by him.
When I complimented him on his great talent, I learned for the first time about OARS and Linda Kelly. They were all her OARS and because he uploaded them to his grid, the technology recognized him as the creator. A lot of people with grids had her OARS at that time as it allowed a grid to have regions already set up and get the grids up and running quickly. Every one of them showed as creators of Linda Kelly OARS on their grids. This is the nature of uploading OARS into a grid even if it was originally created by someone else. Tech makes you the creator. It's a thing. It seems if there was a fix it would have been done by now. I have an OAR of my land. I fully expect everything on it that I didn't make, I will become the creator along with everything I did make if I ever have to use it. It is upsetting cause no one wants to claim the work of others unless they are a jerk, but there may not be a fix for that, so people need to chill. I created more on my region than not, so in the event I have to use the OAR one day because of a disaster, I will be darn happy MY work got saved and offer disclaimers and apologies to all the creator's work I did use on my build. As far as I know, that is the nature of uploading our OARS. Hang a sign with disclaimers and if anyone sees their stuff and is upset about their name not being on it any longer, then they can always offer you an exchange of the product with their name on it. Another thing, Did the names of the items in question change the name or description? Or did just the creator name change?

The actual Name of the product and the description stayed in tact.. it did NOT change in any way! When I click to edit.. it says Felix Mafia is the creator.. but when I click on an item inside.. it has me listed as the creator because I uploaded the oar.. ALL of this was brought to my attention today when I tried to teleport to one of my favorite regions where I shop.. it said the mac address was blocked.. so I contacted the store owner and asked why.. they said because I removed their name as creator.. I did not and I would never do that! Not intentionally.. this was done via tech error.. I did not do this! OpenSim is MESSED UP MAN!

If you can see who the creator is, one thing you can do is put the creator's name in the description, Like Created By SoandSo. Leave the original name of the object. I don't think there is any other way to fix this. One thing I am now doing is I put Star Ravenhurst Designs as part of the name, I put it in the description and then a note card is automatically inserted into every prim I rez when building stuff. If someone uploads an OAR that has anything I have created on it, at least my name will still be attached to the object even if it shows them as the creator. The only reason to be mad in this case is if people go renaming stuff and remove my name as part of the name of the object. These days, there is a LOT of stuff that is showing Unknown as the creator, so there is that as well. Putting your name in the name field when naming whatever it is will help keep your name attached.

The developers of Open Sim should be able to fix this issues if it's been a problem! I am NOT now nor have I ever been a content creator! I am a musician/singer.. and I like to build regions/venues.. other than that.. I don't know squat about opensim versions 000- current.. I've only been in open sim almost 3 years.. if people KNOW this is a problem.. they should fix it.. I created a space and wanted to have thing ready and available for new musicians.. I also share LMs to other shops.. but this OAR was OLD.. at least 2 years old.. and has OLD inventory.. not new inventory.. and if everyone KNOWS that this is in FACT an issue with opensim and it can't be fixed .. then there's a bigger problem.. this is why people are being WRONGLY ACCUSED.. and BANNED from their most favorite grids and shops.. there is NOTHING that can fix it.. and when people save their OARS.. it saves EVERYTHING on it.. EVERYONE in open sim saves oars and iars.. There has got to be a way to fix this..

This has been going on since the beginning. I think if there was a fix for this, it would have been developed by now. It sure would save us all a lot of problems and misunderstandings. Most of us are not thieves or in the habit of claiming the work of others as our own. If we are all aware that this is an issue that happens when someone uploads ANY OAR and not be so quick to judge or anger, we would all be a lot happier. Rogue leave your shops, make disclaimer signs and hang them where folks can see them, and keep making music happen on your grid.

I can not write a script like that unfortunately.. Im not that smart with coding or anything else in opensim or sl.. I just like creating nice venue space for music.. Im at a loss.. but I'm going to talk to a few creators, see if they will set up starter items in a shop.. for female.. and one for male.. and then have links and LMs to go to their grids/regions for clothing bodies/bom etc.. I dont want to be accused of changing the names ever again.. I would never do something like that .. nor would I ever want to take a creators rights away..
