For many freebie sim owners, it's because it's what they've "found on the Hypergrid", i.e. in other random freebie stores. If they've never come across the Clubmaster 2.1 in a random freebie store, and they don't know what the current home sim of the Clubmaster is, they may not even know that a newer Clubmaster exists, much less where to obtain it in a box. Same for Satyr's creations. I wouldn't wonder if the beacons in some of these boxes won't even connect to OSW anymore because they're considered unsafe.
In fact, except for the Clubmaster and the OSW beacon, many seem to not even have the foggiest idea what it is that they're slapping against their walls. And frankly, they don't care as long as it fills their stores up nicely.
Tell them to remove their Athena 3.6 box because even the Athena team have advised store owners to remove all Athenas older than 4 because they're dangerously complex, what with their extra layers for layer clothing support (which got even more obsolete when Athena 6 with BoM came out). If they've still got the Clubmaster 2.0, give them a Clubmaster 2.1 box and tell them to use it to replace the Clubmaster 2.0. Most of the time, nothing will happen. The store owner probably won't even know what you're talking about.
In my case, it's because you never know who might want to obtain older versions for what reasons. Not for daily-driving on their avatars, but for checking them out, e.g. to write down the history of OpenSim-made mesh bodies.
I'm not only offering the old versions. As for female bodies, I'm mainly offering
* the Ruth 2.0 test release from 2016 (flagged outdated in one of my stores)
* Ruth 2.0 RC#1 from late 2017 (flagged outdated in one of my stores)
* Ruth 2.0 RC#2 from February, 2018 (flagged outdated in one of my stores)
* Ruth 2.0 RC#3 + the Extras box from December, 2018
* Ruth2 v4 in all three variants + all additional boxes from August/September, 2020 (seriously, this body has a BoM scripting implementation that makes everything else pale in comparison)
As for male bodies, I'm mainly offering
* Roth 2.0 RC#1 December, 2018
* Roth2 v2 in both variants + all additional boxes from May, 2020
Now I'm waiting for the Max project to pick up again, and one of my stores has already got empty shelves prepared for its eventual releases.
And I am SO VERY MUCH NOT going to rip out everything with "Ruth" and "Roth" in its names in my stores and replace it with landmarks or teleporters to where people can get Legacy and LaraX and Gianni and the like.
The bodies which I offer may not be up there with 2025 Legacy Perky. But they're free-as-in-GPL, they're open-source, they're LEGAL, they're made in and for OpenSim, and I've got the GitHub links to prove it.
The Ruth 2.0 test release is actually far from being the oldest content I offer. I'm among the few who have installed OpenSim-made layer clothes both from before copybotting SL mesh has started as well as from the 2020s. I've got layer underwear, layer lingerie, layer hosiery, layer swimwear and classic, SLUV, non-EvoX layer make-up. In fact, I don't have anything EvoX. My hair is from Anette Hummel and not from Doux. I'm not offering what's the hottest stuff on SL. I'm offering what can still be useful to some, but what's either fading away from stores, or what has become entirely unavailable.
And, again, I've got very good reasons to both keep them in my stores and not replace them with landmarks or teleporters to freebie sims where you can get ripped SL stuff.
I do plan to eventually offer a set of landmarks to places where people can get more content. But that'll be places like Savvy or Klarakunterbunt or Uzuri Common or the PSSMG Freebie Mall that isn't even listed on OSW, and that still looks like you've travelled back in time to 2012 or earlier.
My target audience are those who do not aim to deck their avatar out in L$15,000 and ARC1,200,000 worth of stolen SL content. Those wide-eyed idealists who take the challenge upon themselves to build all-purpose daily-driver avatars out of only legal content. My secondary target audience are those who do use SL bodies, but who don't aim to build the Lamborghini Revuelto of avatars for free, and who aim for an individual style and practicality instead.
