This beautiful 2 story Brick Farmhouse with the wrap around porch is available for rent for free of course. It has a full attic and a full basement, 3 bedrooms and a large bathroom, kitchen, dining room, living room and den. The garage is big enough for 2 cars and plenty of tools and the barn is "HUGE". Lots of land to farm. Occupant may decorate as desired and modifications may be made upon approval of the owner. This is true country living at its beautiful best.
Below is a reposting of a comment I made in response to Openlife’s pathetic and wrongheaded rebuff to my initial post. I promised to repost my comment if it was deleted from the thread. Not only did my comment get deleted, but I have been blocked, but through the wonderful technology of alts I am able to access Onellife’s diatribe and also what others who have blocked me are posting. No surprises, it has allowed Onelife to distort and manupulate in order to put across his (wrongheaded) point of view, even to the point of contradicitng themselves on a few occasions.

Seriously, 4chan and 8chan could learn stuff from this lot! Indeed, the more I think about it there is an element in Opensim that seems to want to promote some kind of conspiracy theory. Inadvertantly I seem to have provided fodder, though I cannot for the life of me see how my few comments, none of them at all outrageous, unless you’re one of the EIOSSBF cartel, have created such a furore From that they seem to have taken on a life of their own, becoming ever more grossly distorted according to the viewpoint people like Onelife want to project. Good luck to them, my original piece is there to refute their accusations.

---ooOOOoo---

Good to see that there is at least a fewwho have a balanced view of the software industry. In the interests of full disclosure I am the person who wrote the article for which Openlife’s article is, I suppose, a attempted rebuff .

For clarity's sake, my piece is still up and there to read. Several people have rather bizarrely taken what I wrote and assumed that it is an endorsement of the EchoVoice project. It is not. It is, however, an opinion piece suggesting that if we want the nice things in Opensim, then it's likely we'll have to pay for them, or do without - it really is that simple. EchoVoice was used as an exemplary, nothing else.

I was also accused by Openlife of more or less demanding money with menaces, and by another suggesitng that I was calling people ‘cheap’*.when all I did was to suggest that most people could afford small contributions: not that they had to, and nowhere did I even hint that people should donate, merely that they more than likely could. Of course there will be a very small number of people who won’t be able to afford to contribute to anything, but I hardly think they will exist in any significant number in virtual worlds as they will be destitute, not inworld, and have far more to worry about than the people on here who are triggered at any suggestion that they could, shock, horror, pay some money for something for once in Opensim.

One of Harper Held’s comments was so abusive and intemperate that I not only deleted all their comments, but also blocked them. Both Openlife and GlennXpletive had some of their comments deleted due to them being either needless repetition, or irrelevant rants that had no place and only served to interrupt the flow of the thread. Because of this Xpletive then felt it okay to make xenophobic comments about my ethnicity. A complaint has been made about that.

Any pertinent comments were left. And yet I have been accused by Xpletive of restrictung their free speech, which is ludircrous. If they want to rant about me there are plenty of places where they could do that, and heck, they could even set up a website to do that - but of course, to do that properly, it would cost them money, and presumably these people are the core of the ‘Everything in Opensim should be free’ cult.

Sure, it's possible that someone could come along and do it for 'free', but it's unlikely. The eagle-eyed will also have spotted that my piece, whilst focusing on a voice module, was somewhat wider in scope, and was presenting an argument that maybe we should be prepared to cough up a small amount of money, if we want nice things in Opensim. There is a precedent, though it’s from 2015 (before the EIOSSBF nonsense started) https://www.hypergridbusiness.com/2015/02/dahlia-trimbles-...

And if that wasn’t enough, there is this one so we could have decent vehicles in Opensim:https://www.hypergridbusiness.com/2015/01/opensim-users-pl...

And... Related to what trggered the OP into writing their piece: https://www.hypergridbusiness.com/2014/01/zetamex-announce...

However, that one didn’t succeed, probably because of the avaialbility of Vivox, which, to a degree is understandable, but hardly an ideal solution.

The notion that Red Hat Linux is free of cost because Fedora is free is also a bit of a dishonest claim. Red Hat does have a cost: https://www.redhat.com/en/store/linux-platforms

EDIT: IBM through Red Hat largely finances both Fedora and CentOS Stream, and development is by both the community and paid professionals employed by Red Hat. A symbiotic relationship common to many opensource projects.

And, as Mike Chase says in his comment, there is a heck of a lot of paid-for work in GNU/Linux and the ‘free’ is more about freedom than free of cost, and, to be fair, most distros don’t make a charge for, but many (if not most) do ask for a contribution to cover their costs, such as this, from Ubuntu MATE: https://ubuntu-mate.org/download/amd64/jammy/thanks/?metho...

I certainly didn’t intend to stir up a hornets (or is it a vipers?) nest over this, all I wanted to do in essence was show how the power of numbers could work hugely to our collective advantage. Anyone might think I’d suggested that people should donate their life savings, or steal the bread from their childern’s mouths! Seriously, some of you would do well to go back to school and learn English comprehension.

*Come to think about it, I do think that most of those bitterly complaining and using the poverty of others as a weapon with which to beat me are indeed ‘cheap’. Not just because they don’t want to contribute towards Opensim project, but because they are cynically and despicably exploiting poor people to bolster their arguments rather than going off and berating exploitative employers for not paying their workers enough to live a comfortable life, or petitioning the government to ensure that adequate unemployment benefits are paid to workers unable to find work.

PLEASE DO NOT COMMENT ON THIS PIECE – ANY COMMENTS WILL BE DELETED.

A great alternative to vivox is mumble. It's changed a lot since the mumble-whisper project for opensim back in 2010. I run a mumble server right here at my house, and anyone can connect to it and try it out. On windows just download the mumble client https://dl.mumble.info/latest/snapshot/client-windows-x64 or on apple mac download this client https://dl.mumble.info/latest/snapshot/client-macos-x64
Mumble also has clients in most linux package managers already ready to go. Mumble has super high voice quality and it's totally private. I've already used it at my grid with several people and the quality was amazing. Plus the fact the mumble server runs on a small raspberry pi at my home with zero problems. If you wish to connect to it, just use cyberdatastorm.com as the server address and you can try it out on port 64738. There are also mumble 'servers' for windows, mac os, and linux. So you can run it on something besides a raspberry pi, and have your completely secure and private own voice server. I understand a lot of people worry about vivox listening in to their private conversations. ok. Here's an alternative. What's great about it is you can play opensim with mumble in the background so it doesn't affect the game play at all, AND it's great voice quality.

Party im Dereosgrid, gestern den 30.08.2023. :-)

Asking for money is not the solution.

In the past, as Copper mentioned, Opensimulator users have already been "cheated." So why go further and ask them for money when many grid owners might need funds to keep their grid running as a hobby and source of entertainment, where they don't earn much money?

The individuals who design Opensimulator, to whom we owe our deepest gratitude, and those who work on derivatives, those who offer "ALL-IN-ONE" solutions like Fred with Dream and Kubwa with their product, do not receive money to feed their families. Even there, there are hours and hours of work, programming, bug fixing; it's not just a simple pastime. Programming to offer a free product is a highly demanding passion.

There's no need to fund the EchoVoice project and continually ask for money. It would be more appropriate to try to find a programmer and contributors to work on an active project, making it compatible with Opensimulator, perhaps developing it in parallel. That would be fantastic, or a team of volunteers who start from scratch by studying the protocols.

Why do I have this idea? Simply because every grid owner could load voice software onto their server in this way, having an independent and parallel voice in Opensimulator.

Why am I against funding EchoVoice? Simply because it would fund a company that employs a programmer and centralizes the voice server, limiting users' freedom of use. I don't believe this is the right path.

Furthermore, the campaign opened by someone insists on saying that open source and projects created by volunteers don't pay rent and don't provide food. I respond again by inviting all of you to think about Ubit, who manages Opensimulator and the contributors to the project, about Fred with Dream Grid that many of you use, and about Kubwa. But this is just one example in the opensim world. There are authors of many viewers who do it out of passion without earning anything. But to go further, it's not true that Red Hat Linux is paid for; all GNU/Linux distributions are free, services are paid for. So, this person who claims that even Linux is paid for is trying to make you believe something that is absolutely not true. Paying for advanced support service or some defined pro features in Linux is equivalent to having something exclusive that that company offers. But even there, you pay about $99 a year to have a SERVICE.

With EchoVoice, you end up funding a company that will need to ask for funding every time until it can generate its own money to pay a programmer for a simple update. Is it based on Opensimulator? If Ubit were to ask for $1 a month for everyone using his (and the contributors') hard work, he would be very wealthy. The same goes for Dream Grid, and this is where the difference lies: the passion with which you program without asking for money, because perhaps through donations you can still achieve a sum.

These individuals, as well as others behind free projects that don't ask for money, started programming and working without asking for anything; that's how trust is gained.

And anyhow, centralizing the EchoVoice service would be wrong.

Think it over carefully.

OpenLife: If you really feel like paying, support Opensimulator programmers and all contributors, support this website, the grids where you live (even more than one if necessary), but be cautious of those who a... 2 years ago

Voice in Opensim is a vexed question, and whilst most of us don't use it for a whole host of reasons it is a very useful thing to have. But, so long as there has been a 'free' alternative, most have been happy to use Vivox. For most people Vivox is probably fine, but for some there is one very big downside to using this service: it eavesdrops.

Some years ago I was working on an Opensim based solution for remote meetings, a place where we could virtually meet. Probably the most important criteria was security and privacy, so obviously Vivox, with its policy of eavesdropping was a non-starter. I had become aware of the Whisper project, but that only worked with Opensim up to 0.7.6, and whilst the module was then still available, it isn't now. Also, the Whisper project itself was abandonware. In 2014, Zetamex announced a bounty for anyone finishing the work on the Mumble-Whisper voice module, and started a crowdfunder, which predictably, this being Opensim, raised the derisory sum of $62 from four backers... https://www.hypergridbusiness.com/2014/01/zetamex-announce...

Even at the time, it didn't look as if the bounty would be claimed, as Vivox was still a viable option, so of course that's what people went for rather than for an independent voice solution for Opensim. I did try to contact the person behind the project at the time, as I would have liked to have supported the project, but they did not get back to me. The project I was working on didn't progress, but more because of the high entry threshold of Opensim/Second Life. I still have the OARs I made for the project however.

The EchoVoice project announced in late 2021 offered some promise even though the project was looking for $60k in initial funding. A cynic might think that raising a sum like that in Opensim is just pie in the sky, and so it proved. Thus far the project has raised $775 of the needed $60,000. Hypergrid Business described the project as suffering from 'delayed funding'. https://www.hypergridbusiness.com/2022/12/vivox-voice-repl...

And now that Vivox seem to be about to follow through on their decision to close off access to Vivox for most users of Opensim there is now a clamouring. The writing has been on the wall for a very long time, and there have been alternative voice projects launched from within the Opensim community that have been ignored.

At the end of the day we need to take responsibility for our own project. The Opensim project needs lots of things. Opensim needs its own viewer project with all the SL only gunk removing, and arguably a more formally organised Opensim fork project is needed to properly progress the project. But I doubt that any of this will happen because no one will cough up any cash. I know there are some users of Opensim who are extremely cash-strapped, but I reckon that most could afford the odd pound/dollar every once in a while to support projects in Opensim. Even in my most financially straightened times I could always find the odd couple of quid for causes that are important to me. Now that I'm somewhat more financially secure, I can afford to indulge more, but like most, I understandably want to be sure that any project I contribute cash to has a better than evens chance of reaching its goal.

There is only one way we will get the things we want in Opensim, such as a voice module, and that is through paying for them!

EDIT

Some people commenting have adopted an intemperate and abusive tone when making comments. I've deleted a few, (and blocked one persistent offender). Some people have also posted irrelevant comments, which have also been deleted. Please keep comments civil, respectful and on topic.

Hiya everyone out there who reads my posts. Im looking for 3 Djs to entertain at 3 underused venues, right now its DJs choice on days and times. It can be any time there isnt already an event on the grid.
The first DJ Im looking for is someone who enjoys being a dinkie, to play at Funzies World.Music is your own choice, as long as the dinkies enjoy it.
The Second is at Glide Roller Rink which is at the welcome area of the grid. Play Roller dance music and requests, doesnt need to be disco cause I do 70's and 80's disco at TGIF on fridays. Just need to have some fun with it.
Third will be One Love beach Club, now I really want someone who enjoys playing Calypso, Soco, Dub, and Dance Hall. This will be a venue of Barbados and these are the styles of music they play there.
All Djs will work on Tips, if you cant sell Gloebits I can take them for you and send you the money once a month. DJs should also have a mic and use it.. and enjoy what they do. I know I do. Check out the calendar and find a good time for your events.
The Last venue mentioned is still under construction so I am not in a hurry to find anyone but someone who would be perfect for this place.

Second Life and OpenSim are not traditionally classified as "games" in the way titles like World of Warcraft or Fortnite are. Instead, they are often described as virtual worlds or metaverses. Here's an explanation:

Lack of Predetermined Objectives: Unlike many games that have specific objectives, missions, or end goals, Second Life and OpenSim don't offer specific tasks for players. Users decide what they want to do, whether it's socializing, building, trading, or exploring.

Creation and Customization: In both platforms, users can create almost anything, from virtual structures to clothing and art. This level of creative freedom is broader than in most traditional games.

Real Economy: Both Second Life (with its Linden Dollar, L$) and certain OpenSim grids have their own economies and currencies, which in some cases can be exchanged for real money.

Social Interaction: A major draw for many users of both platforms is social interaction, similar to a chat room or social media platform, but in a 3D environment.

Diverse Uses: There are various reasons why people use these platforms, from simple social interaction to business, education, training, simulations, and other purposes unrelated to gaming.

However, although they aren't games in the traditional sense, some users might participate in game-like activities within these virtual worlds or set up regions and environments with game-like objectives.

In essence, both Second Life and OpenSim are more like expansive 3D social platforms or metaverses than traditional games.

----------

Dazu tolle Mukke, was will man mehr. 😉

hello everyone,
I just wanted to send out this note to all of our Barefoot-Dreamers.
Thanks to Huga's untiring efforts the grid is up.
As she and Gabe noted this issue was beyond our control, but with the help of our server providers and with Huga and others brainstorming and troubleshooting, the server provider was finally able to track down the problem.
Thank you so much Huga!
.
We also want to thank you all for your patience and encouraging words.
Obviously, we would never want to have this happening and we do our best to keep the grid up and running. And we love having you all here as part of Barefoot-Dreamers.
However, life isn't perfect. So things happen…
.

please let us know if you have any issues, we are here to help.
Gabe, Huga, Kotu and rayne

@JillMunroe Cheryl at least keeps her postings about AI in the context of Opensim so that all can benefit. Makes her much more professional imo.

@dorena.. perhaps mrs cheryl fart is a professional..

I enjoy AI art and the creation process, that's the key after all, what somebody enjoys, not the convoluted arguments about the artform, but the art itself :)
Dorena Verne 9 hours ago
Not bad..., admittedly
CherylFurse 9 hours ago
you can see also my early works Dorena. By the way my whole sim Big City City Life is one art work lol But for my AI work you see my old stuff with runwayML gen 2. Today I work only with chinese video AI and Grok. But never updated in opensim. When perfect: https://rumble.com/v689kvm-video-goals.html

Videos from professionals? What about your own work, Cheryl?
CherylFurse 10 hours ago
You can reach the Expo Center with Bus or train. You can chat with two animesh Hostesses who can tell you things or you just gossip with them. lol They show you the way from the railway station. Just follow them. https://rumble.com/v4hppml-from-expo-center-through-the-ci...

I don't often chat in the Box, but when I do, its usually jokes. Not good jokes mind you, but they are jokes.

OSW says there are 16 people at Rock City and only 8 at Lbsa. I picked Lbsa. but if the City was named Rock, Paper, and Scissor, I'd likely have gone there.

Mummies say “argh." Pirate’s say “argh." Which sucks. How are you supposed to recognize mummy pirates? This is what keeps me up at night.

Thank ou, Manda. :-)

For me it's art... https://soloist.ai/dorenasaiworld

Maybe compare AI-art to a camera. I'm sure some painters said photgraphs isnt art "my 5 year old can take a photo!". And most photos might not be. But some truly are.

So, Pagane, if you add "extremely ugly" to the prompt, you'll get a 1:1 copy of your avatar.^^

AI draw me a woman, let her have two legs, fix - left and right leg, fix, my left with your left, fix - legs without a copier, fix - the legs should be below, fix, between the body and the legs there should be thighs, fix - not hairy....
