The recent "knicker twist" (a *very* ugly and overly dismissive way to blow off what I read as being well-thought out and reasonable points raised by Marianna) does bring up a couple of questions:
Are there amateur builders left in Opensim?
It would be useful to define "amateur" -what do we mean by that term? Myself, I mean "self-taught", someone who has not been to art school or taken formal (not counting Builder's Brewery etc) courses on building. Other people may have different definitions -let's hear them.
It would also be useful to define "builder". When I say 'builder' I mean someone who makes creations with prims or mesh (Blender). (I'm excluding scripting, that's programming.) I'm aware that others define it in such a way as to refer to making modifications on pre-fab/pre-made mesh. Basically a "modder". In my mind it's a valid thing but it's different than building.
But language shifts and definitions change, "hacker" used to mean "someone who comes up with clever approaches to computer problems or design" -but for roughly 30 years it's been used to refer to people who break into computer systems and/or write viruses. As I say -definitions change.
So how do we define "builder" now? What constitutes "building"?
I can only think of a small handful of builders in the sense of making something from nothing, there's a larger pool of people who modify pre-made content -and unless I'm mistaken Marianna and Luna Luneria do a mix of both. Again, one isn't better than the other and both are forms of creative expression. But they are different.
The point of all this is to assess *need.* Do we need an organization? By "we" I am referring to "amateurs", I'm not referring to AuroraAsteria's group.
Moreover with the extremely low user numbers of Opensim would there be a point to creating an organization (beyond a collection of friends -I mean, if you already know each other knock yourselves out)?
I suspect -and have for years, that any such group would wither on the vine from lack of interest. Otherwise I'd be trying to start something myself.
I reserve the right to delete obnoxious comments and lock the comments entirely if it looks like they're going to simply be a shit-show. Show me that you *can* adult, OSW. Don't post insults (I'll delete them), paranoid rants (I'll delete them), off-topic diatribes about how somebody done somebody wrong songs (again -will delete). If there's a question about what the topic is intended to be -ask.
Make this a pain in my ass and I'll delete everything and lock the comments.

I am so sorry to tell you that Shoalwater Bay Grid will remain offline for an undetermined period of time. We will let you know when it returns, and we hope that it returns by Thanksgiving of next year when there will be new attractions added and lots more events! We thank you all sooo very much for coming to visit and for your love and support! While you are waiting, we invite you to come to Mermaid's Cove in OSG where we will continue to have events with some of open sim's greatest entertainers!! The Mi'kmaq and other Algonquin nations have legends of a troll named Kukwes, that are very similar to the stories of trolls in the Tolkien novels. I found a model that I could rig as an npc avatar. I am thinking he will grab passers by, throw them in a cooking pot, and regale the captive audience with lovely stories and legends while the victim is cooking. :D .

Hi folks, you will start seeing a bit more of this around. Long story short: a bunch of as OS contributors have come together to align and improve with our shared brains!
=The Gilded Accord=
The Gilded Accord is a collective of active OpenSim contributors who came together to align and coordinate their efforts.
Its raison the etre is to align the existing efforts and labour of love of the top OpenSim contributors, fostering sharing of best practices, and cross-pollination: because the result of the sum of some part can sometimes be bigger, be the exponential improvement that is born out of many creative minds working together!
Its vision is an OpenSim hyper-world that enjoys free, quality items.
The aims of the Accord are to:
1. Offer a forum for active creators from different grid to coordinate themselves.
2. Foster sharing of best practices.
3. Drive standardisation on standard items, nomenclature and approach that enable further development of dependant items (i.e. appliers, auto-alpha...)
4. Maximise the each members effort by aligning on contributions roadmap.
5. Freely sharing core items (scripts, and similar) that both standarise and improve items
6. Share and align best practices
7. Weave a network of trusted, quality stores across the hypergrid.
The standards of Accord member are:
1. Respecting other people's contributions, while also encouraging consensual sharing of items across stores (particularly 'core' items like body skins, bodies, heads...that are always handy to have in different grids).
2. Standarising the use of [at least!] MOD+COPY format for items
3. Championing the use of normal and specular layers - especially for new items.
4. Making a reasonable use of physics (prioritising bounding box) and reasonable levels of LOD, ensuring a smoother loading on hypergrid.
5. Leverage standardised nomenclature (i.e. use the same names for body and head faces, so other people can create appliers for them).
6. Focus on items for adult avis.
7. Promotion and champion of other members work.
This sounds nice - but what does it look like?
For Accord member: A private discord server section where we can align and share. 'Hey I'm focusing on contributing X', 'Oh, then I'm going to focus on Y which complements X'.
For overall OS members: A trusted networks of stores that meet same standards, as well as regular updates on them from our discord!
