In the long distant past, my commentary on current events would be published by the local papers. In the somewhat more recent past, I would have posted this on Google Plus, where I had 10,000+ followers (most of them were, admittedly, fake Russian accounts). I don’t have quite the reach now on the few social media accounts I use. So I’m posting here, among mostly friends, while I decide how and where-else to post this on-line. Feel free to pass this along in whatever fashion you like.

The Execution of Alex Jeffrey Pretti 

The man fatally shot by Border Patrol agents in the morning of Saturday, January 24th in Minneapolis was Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a U.S. citizen with no criminal record. Mr. Pretti, who was 37, was a registered nurse who worked in the intensive-care unit at the Veterans Affairs hospital. According to friends, he wanted to be a ‘force of good in the world.’ He was, but can be no longer. He was not just shot by Border Patrol agents. He was executed.

Almost immediately after agents shot Mr. Pretti, federal officials claimed that he had endangered agents with a gun he was carrying, and some later accused him of “domestic terrorism.” But videos on social media that were verified by The New York Times appear to contradict portions of the Department of Homeland Security’s account of the shooting. But let’s not, for the moment, debate about why the shooting happened. It happened. And what happened after is what made this not just a shooting. It was an execution.

Border Patrol agents threw Mr. Pretti to the ground and, within seconds, four or five agents started shooting him. Ten shots were fired. Afterwards, when agents could have been rendering first aid, they appeared to be inspecting the body, counting the number of bullet wounds. Like you might count the number of hits on a target at the shooting range.

There were five or more bullet wounds, three of them to his back.

A doctor on the scene told an agent that they were a physician and asked to check Mr. Pretti. He was initially refused, but eventually allowed to go to Mr. Pretti after being patted down. “Normally, I would not have been so persistent,” the doctor said in their statement, “but as a physician, I felt a professional and moral obligation to help this man, especially since none of the agents were helping him.”

Law enforcement officers are generally expected to render first aid after a shooting once the scene is safe and the threat has been neutralized. This expectation is rooted in federal policies, state laws, and professional standards. Once a person is incapacitated or arrested, they are considered to be in the officer's care, making the officer responsible for their safety and treatment. But the agents were not rendering first aid. And when the doctor asked if Mr. Pretti had a pulse, the agents allegedly stated they did not know.

The agents did not take Mr. Pretti’s pulse. They hadn’t applied first aid. Rendering first aid is what you do after a shooting. It’s not what you do after an execution.

This mirrors a similar shooting on January 7, 2026, involving Renée Good, where a doctor was recorded asking to check the victim's pulse. The doctor was initially told "No." The agent said "I don't care."

We do care. We should care. We should do something to stop the shootings and the deliberate indifference of federal agents.

We should do something to stop the executions.  

Upon entering Fantasia, the very air feels different—lighter, warmer, and alive with a quiet magic. Before you is the Fairy Meadow, a vast rolling field carpeted with wildflowers in every imaginable color. Tiny lights drift lazily above the blossoms as fairies flit from petal to petal, their laughter sounding like soft chimes in the breeze. A gently winding path invites you forward, leading you toward the Hobbit Village nestled into grassy hills. Round wooden doors are set into the earth, each framed with ivy and flowering vines. The comforting aroma of fresh bread pulls you toward a cozy bakery, where golden loaves cool on open windowsills and the sound of cheerful humming drifts out the door. Nearby, the winery rests beneath arching grapevines, its barrels aging quietly as the scent of sweet fruit and oak fills the air. Hobbit folk pass by, tipping their hats and offering warm smiles, making you feel like a welcome guest rather than a stranger.

Continuing farther down the path, the scenery slowly transforms as towering trees rise overhead, their branches weaving together to form a natural canopy. You have entered the Fairy Forest, a place of soft shadows and glowing mushrooms that light the way. The forest hums with life—rustling leaves, distant bird calls, and the gentle trickle of hidden streams. Yet curiosity urges you onward.

The path climbs slightly and opens into a breathtaking sight: the Elven Treehouse Village. Seven magnificent treehouses stand high among ancient trees, each one unique and masterfully crafted. Lanterns glow warmly from windows, and laughter echoes through the branches. From this lofty village, you can see the meadow, the hills, and the forest—reminding you that this magical land holds endless adventures, just waiting to be discovered.

You soon realize you have only seen about one third of Fantasia!

Vieles, oder das meiste in Opensim wurde von SL importiert? Das ist jetzt wohl nicht die größte Leistung und ich meinerseits finde es inzwischen gut, die Sachen auszutausen. Es ist eine politische Grauzone gegenüber Second Life. Ich hatte dort einmal Ärger mit einem Designer, der versucht davon zu leben. Es gibt auch den künstlerischen Stolz, dass man nicht gerne aller Öffentlichkeit Dinge überlasssen will an denen man sehr lange gearbeitet hat, besondere NPCs, Kunstwerke, eigenes Design von Kleidung, Möbeln, im Grund eben alles wo man viel Lebenszeit investiert hat. Wenn Du Deine sebstgebauten Häusern unbegrenzt zum Kopieren weitergibst so finde ich das prima. An dieser Stelle versuche ich insofern selbst zu entscheiden, dass ich es den Leuten sage, wenn mir Sachen etwas bedeuten oder sie sind einfach auf no trans eingestellt. Versehentlich habe ich mal eine Region neu gerezzt und er ürsprüngliche Ersteller war überschrieben... ich arbeite daran und lerne weiter.... manche Menschen haben aber einfach kein Feingefühl und meinen dass sie die göttllichen Administratorrechte haben um mit anderer Leute Arbeit und Qualität ihren Traffic zu erhöhen. Für mich ist das eines der wichtigsten Themen in Opensim, das im Detail viele Fragen mit sich bringt. In letzter Zeit denke ich allerdings darüber nach, was mit meiner ganzen Arbeit passiert, wenn mir etwas passiert? Wenn meine Server nicht bezahlt werden, dann ist alles weg, ich kann lediglich die Erfahrung mit ins Grab nehmen. Insofern ändere ich langsam mein Verhalten und sehe es eher umgekehrt, dass ich mich freue, wenn Leute Freude an meiner Arbeit haben. Diese Leute sind jetzt noch auf meine Freunde begrenzt, aber das wird sich im Zuge der weiteren Verschlechterung meiner Gesundheit sicherlich noch ändern... Eine interessante Entwicklung wie ich finde... Am Ende bin ich total beruhigt wenn etwas von meinem künstlerischem Schaffen in der Welt weiter existiert.... Ich plane eine grosse Ausstellung in eienr 2x2 simgrossen Stadt und werde mit der Zeit alles ausstellen was ich gut finde was ich so in meinem Leben gemacht habe... wenn die Region dann irgendwann fertig ist, dann verschenke ich sie. Bisher habe ich nur eine kleine Sammlung von KI Kunst frei gegeben und wäre dann sehr gespannt diese Bilder in irgenwelche Arbeiten andere integriert zu sehen... Das ging mir so mit meinem Materiall in RL bei einem Vision Board Workshop letztes Wochenende. Dieses Erlebnis hat mich bestärkt und ich emfinde es als angenehm. Die Angst vor Problemen mit den Erstellern in Second Life habe ich immer noch, weil ich da Verständis habe für deren Belange. Hat jemand damit Erfahrung? Gab es schon mal rechtliche Konsequenzen? Soviel ich weiss, kann einem Second Life einfach den Account sperren. Das will ich vermeiden, weil ich dort jahrelang an meinem Multiscene Rezzer Stations gebaut habe, die sind no trans und ich will das Zeug nicht verlieren. Das Letzte wollte ich noch erwähnt haben, denn man könnte denken, ich wäre geizig oder so und das wäre ja kein Problem. Was denkt Ihr darüber?
