Die Geschichte von The Cure begann nicht als solche, sondern unter dem Namen Malice, eine Band, die 1976 von einigen Schulfreunden in Crawley im Süden Englands gegründet wurde. Alles begann mit einer zufälligen Jam-Session nach einem Abendessen in einem chinesischen Restaurant, an der sich die Gründungsmitglieder Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson, Cindy Wilson, Ricky Wilson und Keith Strickland beteiligten.
