I searched high and low for the elemental guardians and could not find them so I guess they went the way of anything else captured in the machinations of Opensim. So I shopped and shopped and then I shopped again until I finally found just the right statues, took them home, tore them all apart, and created my own elemental guardians. Earth, Water, Air and Fire are ginormous angelic guardians of the elements and I created them for an Fantasy themed region that can be used for RP'rs if they like. While I love the interior of the new Majestic Ballroom and don't want to change a thing, I am not happy at all with the exterior (pictured), since I feel it doesn't sufficiently capture the Art Deco style. So I'm pulling the venue for now to rework the outer facade. There is a ton of architectural inspiration all over the world to draw from. I'll send upgrades to those who have already purchased the current version once it is complete.

Occasionally I get asked why I chose the name "Speck", perhaps this may better answer the question.

Betelgeuse is a red giant star (sometimes called a red supergiant) in the constellation of Orion, you can see it with the naked eye on a clear night. It's the red dot on the left shoulder of Orion.

Easy to spot, easier still if you have the excellent Stellarium app which is free to use but has optional paid upgrades.

Stellarium will NOT recommend a cinema where you can go and watch the Beetlejuice movies, that's a totally different universe!

We're likely to see Betelgeuse change quite drastically in the near future, you see it exploded, quite some time ago.

Here's where my name starts to sneak into the story.

Betelgeuse is big, really big, really exceptionally big.

If you swapped it for our sun we'd be dead, in fact we'd be deep inside it.

Even Jupiter, so very far away from our sun might well be swallowed up.

* Sometimes the size of things is hard to comprehend even when they are relatively close by.

Betelgeuse actually exploded a while back, quite a while back, quite a hell of a while back.

It exploded around 650 million years ago, the Earth was likely in the middle of an ice age at the time.

* Sometimes things are so distant in time, we can't quite even get a feel for how long ago something happened.

Betelgeuse is around 650 million miles away.
Fortunately for planet Earth that distance from Betelgeuse means we exist.

* Sometimes the impact of an event such as an explosion is hard to wrap your head around without some point of reference.

At this time I'm compelled to slide in a quote from one of my favourite authors:

“Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.”

By the time we see this explosion around 650 million years will have passed.

Because we see light, and light only goes so fast - a mere 3 million meters a second or 186 miles a second or 671 million miles an hour, we can almost get a grip on those numbers, almost.

When we do see it, it will be spectacular and for a long time.
It will probably be as bright as the moon, even likely to be visible in daytime.

So dear reader, if you read this far - well done, I've droned on a lot.
More importantly at least to me is to know what I am in all this majesty of physics, of time and of space.

What else could I be but "speck" :)

Take care of yourselves and each other as we all cling to this fragile rock in the cold of space, it's really the only thing we deserve to be proud of.

Looking for a New Owner for Coopersville – A 64-Sim-Sized Community in Kitely

Greetings!

I'm looking for a new owner for Coopersville in Kitely — an Edwardian-themed community that spans a 64-sim-sized region. I’m shifting my focus toward updating and adding to my Four Winds store. There are only so many things I can give proper attention to. Coopersville deserves someone who can be a more active community owner and leader.

I plan to give it until the end of April to find someone to take over ownership. The new owner would take over on April 30th, 2025 including the monthly payment.

The monthly cost of $89.95 USD would be grandfathered in. The 64-sim-sized region has 150,000 prims and can support up to 80 avatars. It is not currently an "always-on" region, but that option is available should the new owner choose to upgrade.

All of the content that is currently on the region would remain there and would remain the property of the original owners. I won't delete anything but I would retain ownership of the buildings and landscaping because it's too difficult to change ownership with permissions and all. The new owner could continue using them indefinitely until or if they wish to replace them. I will give the new owner copies of all of the buildings that I created that are displayed in Coopersville with the exception of the content on the center Four Winds area which will be deleted.

On the north side of the region are 14 256x256 islands, all but 3 currently have renters. These islands rent for $5.00 USD per month or $1000 KC. I hope the new owner would continue offering island rentals for the sake of the current residents, but that’s completely up to them.

There are also 13 free homes around the perimeter of the main continent (in the southwest area of the region). All but one are currently occupied, and those homes are presently free for the residents — again, the new owner can decide how they want to handle that.

There is a large downtown area on the main continent. It has 19 shops that are currently free to the merchants occupying them. A 20th shop is by the ocean. The new owner can decide if they want to continue this.

Coopersville, although Edwardian themed, is not currently a roleplay region. The new owner could easily change it to roleplay. There are areas that are perfect for events too.
