Stell dir vor, die erbarmungslose Hitze der kalifornischen Wüste brennt dir auf die Haut, während der Sand unter deinen Stiefeln knirscht. Aus dieser unwirtlichen Landschaft, geformt von glühendem Fels und der unendlichen Weite des Himmels, erhob sich Ende der 90er-Jahre eine musikalische Urgewalt, die das Rock-Genre für immer prägen sollte: Queens of the Stone Age. Eine Band, die nicht nur Töne formte, sondern die Seele des Desert Rock destillierte und sie in eine neue, düstere und doch unwiderstehlich groovende Form goss. Angeführt von dem charismatischen und oft undurchsichtigen Josh Homme, begannen sie einen Kreuzzug gegen musikalische Konventionen, zogen eine Schneise der Verwüstung durch die Hörgewohnheiten und hinterließen ein Erbe, das so monolithisch ist wie die Felsen, aus denen sie einst krochen.
