Before and after elections, polls are a critical tool for gauging the "will of the people" beyond what simple election results can show. Polls are, by their nature, political.

A poll on OSW says that the will of the people here is that this is not a place for politics. But if you don't want politics on OSW, you lose just by voting.

Not that it matters. Polling results in OWS are not enforceable and will not stop political posts. Want to do something effective? Block people.
