The Gloomgloom
‘Twas glimmer, and the snorpy flumps
Did flindle and spangle in glade;
All trembling were the blorpy clumps,
And wibbly wargs sang in soft shade.
“Beware the Gloomgloom, dear child!”
Its snarls that hiss, its claws that scratch;
Beware the Jibberknob, be mild,
The frabjous Flumbloom’s feral catch!”
He took his glimmering spade in hand,
And paused beside the Tumbltree’s glow;
Long time he searched the shifting land,
Till found the beast at dusk’s low bow.
The Gloomgloom, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the murky wood;
It burbled loud, a fearsome name,
And thumped the ground as it once stood.
One, two! He took his spade in hand,
The vorpal blade went snicker snack;
He left the beast upon the sand,
And galumphed home with triumphant snack.
He bore the beast’s great head to the hall,
Where folk did cheer in raucous glee;
The trumpets blared, a glorious call,
And all the realm sang loud in glee.
