About four years ago I found Fred's Gif2SL tutorial and wanted to try it with fish, and it worked perfectly, you can find all sorts of animated fish, bugs, butterflies, etc that you can create beautiful animated gif creatures inworld. It is how I created my ants to walk on my countertop, and here is how:

How to Use GIF2SL to Animate Textures in OpenSim

Animating textures on a prim in OpenSim can add dynamic visuals to your builds, and the GIF2SL app makes it easy to bring GIFs into the virtual world. Follow these simplified steps based on Fred Beckhusen's directions.

Step 1: Download and Install GIF2SL

Download the GIF2SL app from Fred’s site. https://outworldz.com/Secondlife/posts/gif/Create-Gif-in-S...

Extract the downloaded files and ensure the application is ready to use.

Step 2: Convert Your GIF

Open GIF2SL and load your desired GIF file.

The app will automatically extract frames and generate a .png file containing frame data.

Save the output files to a folder for easy access.

Step 3: Upload Frames to OpenSim

Log into OpenSim: Use your viewer to log into the region where you want to use the GIF.

Upload Frames: Upload the PNG frames generated by GIF2SL and name them sequentially (e.g., frame_01, frame_02, etc.).

Step 4: Animate the Texture on a Prim

Rez a Prim: Create a cube or another prim in-world.

Add the generated gif texture to contents, then

Apply a Script: Insert Fred's animation script into prim.

With Ferd’s guidance, I explored how to use light leaks and colorful textures in Firestorm’s FOV editor. Here’s how you can do it too:

Create or Find Textures: Use Photoshop or download light leak textures. Save them as PNG or TGA.

Upload to Firestorm: Import textures into your inventory.

Apply in the FOV Editor: Open the FOV settings, drag your texture into the designated slot, and adjust opacity, rotation, and position.
Experiment: Play with blend modes and colors for seamless integration.

Sync with WindLight: Combine with environment settings for cohesive, cinematic effects.

I've just added some trial rentals to Suburbs which replaces the "by invitation only" housing.

Please note that this is on a "trial" basis and will be removed if the facility is abused.

If this works well - I plan to add more rentals to Princess, Princess Islands, and Autumn regions.

This is a replica of a RL rocker I have, rusted horseshoe rocker. I created it trying to make the shoes rusted looking so they are missing a few "faces" on the mesh, to try to resemble rusted out, I am still working to make it better but this is at the dump, it is a fun addition to western themed sims.

OK. my first post in a while. I would say 'Happy 2025' but for out American comrades 2025 represents a strep into the unknown. It's not just the USA, or course as many European countries are facing an onslaught from a reinvigourated far-right, or have already succumbed. We in the UK face an uncertain political future too, with the performance of the new government elected in July thus far made things worse for people struggling with the cost of living, worries over healthcare and finding a decent, affordable home. The UKs Labour Party under leader Starmer is now acting as Reform UK the political company owned by Nigel Farage (Trump's butt-plug) who are gaining round and are now second in many places according to opinion polls.

For us in Opensim, and more partucularly the pages of OSW w have at least a small victory in that the person who inspired the creation of this group has been silenced.

But we shouldn't just focus on the negatives, but also reinvigourate ourselves and act in solidarity with each other.Thank you Xenon for your words, writing that post here has helped you with how you feel, or to come up with a new perspective, then this group is doing its job. But we should have fun and celebrate who we are and what we stand for. To this effect I am planning a social event later on this year so we can come together and have fun and enjoy each other's company. Watch this space for an announcement of time and place.
