LETS SPREAD POSITIVITY NOT HATE!
Lately I have noticed a lot of drama, hate and bashing towards other people. I try to ignore most of it but lately it has become to much. Why do people feel the need to use hateful words or put someone down.
No matter what religion we are, gender, political views or whatever it is, cant we just agree to disagree.
I have seen a lot of people in my time in Opensim do amazing things, anyone that can DJ, build, script and anything else, is awesome to me. For the ones that constantly tell everyone they are awesome its because they are. They do a lot of things i do not know how to do or cant.
So in conclusion, I would like to say thank you to all creators, builders, scripters, and etc, because without all of you, my regions wouldn't look as good as they do. I may take things and place them and put them together but the credits go to the creators, builders and scripters.
Instead of name calling and tearing people down, lets be a little kinder, lets ignore the negative and worry more about spreading positivity.

Personally i could care less if you are black, blue green or any other color.
Just as i do not care if you like or love men, women or any other thing.
But dont post it online, it just gives others things to fuel about.

The problem with this isn't just those who are convinced that OpenSim is nothing but a 3-D chat. It's those who believe that everyone else thinks the same.
It's hard to act in-character if absolutely everyone else thinks you're talking about RL.

It's getting harder and harder for me to be positive. I keep trying and I keep helping when I can. But it's really getting harder and harder for me to be positive after all the slop against me.

Pagane, I understand your frustration and know it can be hard, I've noticed people tend to react at times when people come off a bit strong. Try and be mindful with your words and actions :) I do not have alts on here either, I see no point of having them.

I must say that I have seen little, if any, "name calling and tearing people down." Compared to SL, which I left almost 2 decades ago, the OS world, taken in total, is a slice of pure heaven.
If there are a few who express "hate and bashing towards other people" it must be a very small number.
Again, I have not experienced this in any way worth mentioning.
Maybe I just live a charmed virtual life.

you are very lucky to have not had the horrible pleasure of it, I have had it as far as threats against me. Now I will say I ignore most of it but sometimes when someone does it to others its time to speak out.

I'm sure that there are many more kind and positive people than hateful people in opensim. The problem is that the latter are much more talked about because they are often the type to persist.
In any case you're lucky, for me I think I attract them, and I assure you that I'm not mean and have never wanted to harm anyone

My grid is one of the oldest OpenSim grids ever, since December 2009, officially since January 2010. I have been here in OSW since 2015. I have seen many come and go. I have also been subjected to the worst insults. Some people only log in here to put me in a bad light. For example, that I am the worst troll ever. At some point they get fed up and I fire back and I am the bad guy. Some people here in OSW blocked me without giving me the chance to talk to me, even though I have never had anything to do with them. Ultimately, I have been here for a long time and I will not be driven away that easily. Arguing in itself is not a bad thing. It is pathetic to log in here with a fake account and then use another one inworld. That's just cowardly, in my opinion, because these are the people who are the most uninhibited when it comes to trolling and insults.

This is really a nice post; it speaks a lot of truths.
But I also see some people writing comments full of love, but in reality, they are not truthful. These individuals have had conflicts with their respective communities or caused serious problems in some grids, and they don't stop generating disputes. They continually try to enter places from which they have been banned by using VPNs and MAC addresses generated by the usual viewers. They create at least 3-5 avatars on OSGrid every month, convinced they will go unnoticed, but they always belong to the same person. When they manage to get into that grid, but only because they are allowed to and not because they are clever, they spread hatred and resentment because they are there to cause fights and arguments. If this is their tendency, they will do the same here, making multiple accounts. However, with their main accounts, they appear friendly, but in reality, their constant creation of drama is evident.
In short, if the post is written by a good person, some comments are written by an ambiguous character who appears one way but is actually something else, and there are traces here too to prove it.
This type of person, everything they criticize in this post is exactly what they do.
And this is the truth, we all know it.

you have a valid point, some people want this but there constantly finding things to pick at. As a grid owner i have to learn to pick my battles now, sometimes its better to stay neutral but if i cant, offer advice on what could have been done better. Do i agree that some bans are unnecessary, absolutely! we all have to be willing to communicate. However some things can be justified when it gets to far like threats and whatnot.

Thanks for this post. In my recent experience I have heard some highly regarded long time OS people talking about avoiding the OSW website alltogether, because it's too toxic at times. And this is sad, because OSW has the potential to be a great place for like minded folks to share idea's, concepts, experiences and the like. And a handful of pathetic, insecure, small minded Jackasses screw it up for the rest of us. Thanks again for your post.

Yes! Just like you did with me when you came to my grid to visit then to accuse me of copying you. That really built me up!! If I do not create it myself I purchase it. I had to show you receipts to prove I had the content legally! This IS toxic and can cause people to leave! I appreciate though in your post you wish to thank creators that is kind. Oh Btw that OAR you said you purchased, at this website

to reiterate i wasn't accusing you of anything, I simply asked where you got it and told you where I got mine. I had the oar up for a few days so you could see it but not sure you got that hint :). in the end you and I are all good but i wanted to make it clear i wasn't accusing you of anything, after i saw yours it made me wonder about mine and where it originally came from.

I have been at your places a few times, I dont illegally copy peoples creations that is very wrong. Nor do I use copybot viewers and there also banned in my grid. I only grab was is set for copy or buy. Its disheartening you assume I did that to one of your acquired items. The item in question was purchased a few years ago included in an oar on that site i showed you. It was purchased for the grid by the previous owner, when I took it over I acquired said oars.
The region the item is on that you have I have only been there once or twice that i recall. If I went there a second time it was to double check i had the same item.

yes, they must be unhappy to be so aggressive... and maybe we did the same to them in RL. People are not born hateful. But what hurts the most is when we have almost built something with them for weeks and take in the face a hatred that we do not understand where it can come from. We finally understand only one thing, it is that visibly we have not lived the same story each on our side, it is unthinkable that it is only meanness....... I do not know....

Yes, it's getting too much for me too. Especially because cowardly haters and trolls are now creating accounts here in OSW just for this purpose so that they can keep a clean slate inworld. I always try to keep the peace, but I'm not completely free from being provoked and then not reacting very nicely. Then I've been fooled again and these a... can point the finger at me again. It's pretty exhausting sometimes.

Sometimes those who do not stand for something, will fall for anything. Some of the kindest people, for instance, may choose to block me simply because I angrily defended someone who was being bullied in disgusting ways. I will not live my life at war 24 hours a day, but I shall always speak my mind, and let my morals and what I know to be the right thing to say or do, be done. May everyone find peace and happiness and some day see all of opensim as one big, sometimes dysfunctional family, who does our best to support each other!

O know people often don't want to be placed in positions where they have to take sides, where they have to condemn and maybe wish to delay taking a stand. But sometimes it's better to make a firm decision to stand on the side of right and do a little condemning, to go out and vote, to take a stand so that justice and liberty, democracy, and yes, even those who are marginalised and genuine victims of being bullied.
Tyrants and demagogues take over when too many do not stand for anything, or who hide themselves away and try to tell themselves that it's not their fight. One day it could well be their fight, but it might by then be too late, and anyone who could have been around to stand with them are long gone.
I may not agree with a lot of things, e.g. religion or differences of political opinion, but I will always stand in defence of people's right to practice a religion or to express differing political opinions so long as they do not transgress another person's humanity or worth as a human. That's the point when I hit the block button.

I think that the people who resort to being rude, calling other people names, stupid etc. are the ones who are unhappy and unfullfilled in their life. Why else would anyone get so upset and so angry about stuff on an online platform. I agree that it is saddening to see but I also believe it is a reflection of what is happening all around us in the real world. Polarization, hatred and bigotry are not unique to openSim nor is it realistic to hope that those people are not on Opensim. Best we can all do is keep our cool, enjoy our online and offline life, be nice to people, shrug if someone gets hateful and feel sorry for that person and the personl their unsolicited anger is aimed at and yes, use that block button.. it's what it's there for. HUGS to all who want them, stay awesome and enjoy your weekend!

I haven't used the block once on osw, I simply I guess let them block me if they feel the need. Most people.though are to quick to use it instead of communicating.

Notorious trolls don't block you.
And even if they do, they unblock you at times, just to troll you again immediately afterwards and then block you again so you can't defend yourself.
Not to mention that they all have a whole pile of unused, blank-profile, blank-slate sock puppet accounts on OSW which they'll use once to attack someone and then never again.

I haven't, either. I've learned to pick my battles and someone behaving like a five year old throwing mud is just not worth the energy, nor do I have any illusion I can make them see reason and change their ways. So as soon as I see it's that type of post I don't even read it. Plenty of better, more fun, more positive things on the site to read.

You are so right. Also, many people come here to find entertainment from their often difficult real life and think that they will at least find peace there. The ambient hatred, intolerance and aggression that can be found here and in the Hypergrid have already surprised me and broken my heart several times.
Why also do some people always have to understand what is said about the worst option? I have seen it many times as a non-English speaker...

Thank you! I agree! The world can be an ugly place. It doesn't have to be here for us in Open Sim. This is our escape from all the drama and trauma our planet goes through every day. It is so much easier to be nice. We don't all have to be alike to get along. We only need compassion, tolerance, the ability to try to understand, and love. Love is so much better than hate.

It breaks my heart to see such animosity on this site. There is no reason for it. None of us are perfect and everyone is a unique human being. No one deserves to be treated badly and I will never understand how anyone can be so mean to another person. It brings tears to see such ugliness in such beautiful people. Make Love! Not War! is my new mantra,,, though the saying has been around a while now.
