A reminder. Outfits without the "quality assured" label may be missing items due to asset loss following a grid attack. I'm working to fix the missing asset issue, and you can help. Each outfit vendor has an "oh HELLO Outfit Status Report" note card. DELETE the sentence on the note card that does NOT apply:
* OK (All assets found and all textures present)
* NOT OK (Assets and/or textures missing)
Then drop the report note card into the mailbox next to the oh HELLO shop sign.

As you may be aware OSG is off line.

Let me preface this by saying that your data is ok. This is not a crash.

This is a needed house-cleaning procedure that's the product of taking up to four times the space in the server that it's needed for the assets files. So they are re-organising the way the data is stored and adding essentially more space in the server.

In your personal computer that would take about 2 or 3 hours tops, given the size and complexity of the setup of OSGrid that will take about 48 hours. Think that the current ingest of assets of the old server is rounding a quarter of a billion assets... in tiny tiny files.

Think your hard drive, it's like a huge stack of tiny boxes, you can put inside just one piece of information, if you put something that is bigger than one box then you fill as many boxes as necessary until the thing is completely there, that's how it works.

However if you have a bunch of things that are smaller than the box that contains it you waste a TON of space. That's why it's needed to reorganise the data and that's what they're doing right now. So that's the reason why it'll take so long, but as I said before, this is not a crash, just housekeeping, your data is fine.

The Art Factory is about art and artists. At The Art Factory, we display art; we appreciate art; we learn about art; and, we promote art. We have over a dozen galleries dedicated to in-world artists, where they show their innovative creations. As such, we are beginning a feature called Meet the Artist.

This week we want to introduce to you, the very talented Nice Minik.

Ms. Minik, can you tell us a bit about yourself and your art?
My interest for VL-Photography started back in InworldZ with some photos of dancing Avis.
In 2017 the "Nice Minik" on OSG was created to try out "hypergriding" and to build a photo-studio with backdrops and "flat" lighting for Avi photo sessions.A visit of Ellen and Ernest in my first little gallery changed my virtual life.
Since that day I explored the photo-features of Firestrom and tried a lot of light-effects to make my inworld-photos more interesting. It comes in handy to be a prim builder (for certain backgrounds) and I also learned to create poses in the meantime.

And what are you doing artistically now?
Nowadays I can display model-sessions and themed series at "the Art Factory". And I was able to create some issues of the Stark Magazine.

So, what's the motivation behind your work?
Some of my work just tries to show beauty. Some may be a bit provocative. But I always try to find the mood, lighting and angle to take photos, that "tell a story". And sometimes I can even achieve that goal.
One thing stayed consistently through my development as an inworld-photographer: what you see is what I saw. That means, that I never do after-works on my photos.

What do you enjoy most about creating art in virtual worlds?
Besides that, I very much like to show virtual life in a way, that makes viewers enjoy what I enjoyed or maybe get an impulse to think about certain aspects.

Well usually the signs are obvious. Missing items, White items, even possibly 100's of scripts missing. How do they do it? Simple. Viewers like hydrastorm and darkstorm have options such as God mode override hack, which let's the user become a god on your land. The viewers also can let someone delete items from your sim, clone items, and even take the scripts. Well that's fine, you say, my opensim blocks hydrastorm and darkstorm. Except these viewers have a feature that lets them masquerade as regular firestorm, singularity, hippo, and others... It tricks your simulator into thinking the person is not using hydrastorm, but is instead using firestorm. But there are other hacks as well, the reverse friend permissions hack, sim crashers, and more. So what's a good defense? Some packages like dreamgrid, include an option to autobackup when you like. And keep N number of backups before recycling them. Dreamgrid also makes it easy to back up your inventory to an IAR. I suggest you use features such as these, or if you're on linux, learn to save your oars from the command line, as well as your iar's. While hackers can and often do use a vpn to gain access to a sim they plan to attack so their ip cannot be traced. For example PIA (private internet access) gives their users thousands of servers to choose from, with many different IP addresses. So blocking by ip address is nothing more than a temporary snafoo for hackers. If you block by name, they come back with an alt. Also there's a setting in opensim that allows a grid owner to edit the attachments of people that come to their grid, and it's trivial to turn this feature on. To sum it up, some people are just jerks, and all you can do is backup, backup, backuppppp.

I gave it a good go but the rigging of the jewelry caused the avatar cost to go up too much. I have decided to pull some of the bento because of complaints about the avatar cost. Before rigging the jewelry is decimated until it loses it's detail, so I am decimating as much as possible. I will keep playing with it until I can get the cost down. Thank you Typhaine.Artez for taking the time to help me perfect the jewelry. It has been a battle because it is such fine details which cost huge on some pieces no matter how much I decimate, or clean up. The other issue is, when clients wear mesh shoes, hair, clothing their avatar cost is up there, then by wearing my jewelry it goes up let's say the same as a pair of shoes, but because the jewelry is usually added last, the jewelry is to blame!! It is all adding to the avatar cost. Back to the drawing board. Thank you for all the support!!

I was shopping at wright plaza, and a lady came up to me rudely accusing me of stealing things from osgrid. All I said to her was I think it is time to block you. So I blocked her, and immediately her alt pops up and begins to cuss me out. I mean. Excuse me, but People use my scripts in osgrid that got them from 2nd or 3rd parties, and I never say a word, so I don't see a big deal with getting free stuff from any grid. But if you go to wright plaza and get attacked by this woman, just ignore her, it seemed to me that she is just trying to drive people away. I changed my nick, and had my account deleted b/c of a nasty group constantly persecuting me until I boiled over in a meltdown. Don't make the mistake I did by interacting with them, just block them and go on with your fun.

Hi, I need some long term help on our: 1. Academy education regions 2. on our Entertainment Virtual regions 3. on our "film set regions" 4. all regions loolol Ive got to a point now where people can actually help and live. This is a "live" in thing. Although we are OSgrid we are like a mini grid with 50 4x4s and growing on a rented server (10 core, 60gig Ram, 1600G hd) more servers can be put on at any time, so have some space. You can get for free 1 4x4 region to start, after a month and you feel relaxed about staying with us and working these projects, more can be added for you. Ideal for someone who is an artist/musician who wants to live in an "art colony/education" like atmosphere. We have some free rental residents who look like they are staying which is fine. Very relaxed about that, they are good people. We also have 10 Artists that are part of our RL group, but they are newbies and cant build or anything. Would be great to add to the family one more experienced person besides me and Una lololol 39 are coming on next all newbies. I work with them, but if you like helping new people that would be great. Skills needed: Building or just decorating, definitely Terraforming, have excellent understanding of your viewer, can set groups and handle parcel and region settings. Great if your a scripter thats a bonus and im happy to increase exchange as thats a higher skill. We have 50 of the 4x4 connected by Ocean more to come so the sailing is enormous. lol mostly for others to enjoy. I build in Themes because the regions double as "film" sets for live broadcasting by Artists. There are 300 Artists on our label. all kinds of music. They don't really perform inworld most of them, they are doing RL music work. But they will be doing concerts and broadcast for live streaming. THE POWER OF GREEN ACADEMY is my baby. This non profit has operated for 41 years in RL and 9 years Virtual. Its free education both for inworld people and also for RL students from low income worldwide. each year we get around 15000 students at the moment, but that is increasing. I've recently gone into rebuild to accomodate more students on this platform. We also will be live recording and streaming from inwold with new software that works with this platform.
