Quick (couple of) question to OS Community:
- Do many of you still use (and prefer) Gianni?
- Do many of you use perky versions of bodies?
Thinking in terms of effort (because there are ENDLESS bodies with add-ons now) and that's it's extremely hard to cater for everyone in terms of clothing.

However, I'm testing the others as well—not for appearance, but to identify which ones are flawless. The worst so far is Athena, which shows checkerboard patterns on the legs.
What does Maitreya correspond to? Is it similar to Athena?

The checkerboard board pattern is a typical example of wrong texture settings on a mesh, nothing to do with the mesh itself. Set alpha mode to Mask with a cutoff on every link and the pattern should vanish.

For my own bodies line Femme and Homme (that I work on since years and still not released), I use 5 for the cutoff. In fact 1 would be enough, and setting alpha mask instead of blending will work on any mesh body or head. Remember the issue with the Athena Catya head long years ago :)

Besides, an alpha-blended body tends to look funny with alpha-blended hair and/or clothing in front of it. And it may appear brighter than it actually is, depending on your graphics setup.

I like Maitreya mainly, because it's looks good and that is what I invested the most effort. I've also been getting into the Legacy body lately, and I wish we could also use the alternate UVs in OS like they way the body comes with. Has anybody done that with Legacy yet?

I mainly use Gianni as my default, but I realised as I use a non mesh head I can just swap bodies depending upon what outfit I want to wear.

For those having neck issues, aka mostly males but also females, the problem does not only comes from the matching meshes between head and body. Often even with a perfect seam match, the seamline stays visible.
The other important factor comes from the skin. For example if face and body skin textures haven't been made together but "made for matching" there is still a risk the line shows off. On many recent female skins, the face texture comes as a tattoo which includes face and upper body texture, latter being a blending neck one.
And a final factor even with perfect skin matching textures is about mesh properties. Alpha blending/masking makes a big difference in light rendering, and it's even more visible when adding materials (bump/specular) that do not match (or worse only on the body and not the head).

Si j'ai eu un exemple récemment. Mais le point le plus important est bien le dernier mentionné (la plupart des mesh homme et femme et têtes sont désormais "compatibles", si on ajoute une skin qui n'a pas de soucis de bordure entre la tête et le corps, reste les problèmes de rendu)

Same issue in SL with evox heads. Neck fixes are a thing, but even then, you tend to dress / accessorize to take the eyes away from that

I used to use Gianni 1.1, then switched to Legacy for OS. I started getting errors when I wore the Gianni body that it was not permitted in certain regions or grids. I changed to Legacy body and had no issued getting anywhere. I use Legacy mostly now, although for some outfits that are made for legacy, I still have to adjust the alpha HUD when short sleave or long sleave. The little tiny pieces of the alpha hud can be hard to grab at times without leaving a line somewhere. I have not really played around much with the Gianni 6 body, but like how that alpha HUD is set up for ease of use.

Hello Aurora, i've only been using the Legacy Body for a few months now. Before that I used the Gianni body for a long time. I would like to thank you very much for the great men's clothing that you have been making available to us for a few weeks now.

I prefer classic and petite/perky versions of Athena, Larax and Legacy. NEVER Reborn. Why do i use so many bodies? it depends of the clothes I find around. I am not really fussy. I can sort out my body shape for more or less curves because i am not into extreme shapes, I am a boring standard person. Regarding Huds, Legacy's are a bit "painful". Gianni's huds are very easy to use and easy to find clothes, so no wonder they are very popular among users.

Nobody knows what really kicked the Menswear Ghetto off.
Is it the notion that guys only need one shirt, one pair of jeans, one pair of shoes that makes supplying more menswear uninteresting?
Or is it the lack of menswear that keeps guys from varying their outfits? I mean, apart from all the stuff imported in the second half of the 2010s and well into the 2020s that makes them look like Russian mafiya mobsters?

@JupiterRowland I would say it is no different from RL: Women tend to be bigger shoppers for apparel (for a huge number of reasons, some of which are not very nice in terms of appearance expectations etc..). That means it's 'more profitable' for creators to create for ladies (at least when it comes to clothes etc.)

Athena, LaraX and Legacy for me, Reborn sometimes but I am never satisfied with shapes..
I am maybe oldschool but I loved the good old times when there weren't 1000 bodies, it was much easier, everything fitted athena/ruth

I hope that Max will get the standard neck cross-section for those who absolutely want to wear these bodies with an SL head. That is, it'd also be an incentive to make free, open-source third-party heads if they can fit more than one body.

@JupiterRowland Honestly - that would be amazing. What Legacy or Lelutka do is not 'rocket science' for those who know how to mesh. Even LL has turn now to offer begginers with those shapes, I'm sure something original and Open Source could be done on it - but it needs to be quality.
Then we can people would rather invest money on buying 3D licensed models (instead of clothes in SL), rigging them to that nice Ruth Body, and....

The Blender kits were all halfway useless. That's because Ada Radius had to build devkits in Blender for bodies which Shin Ingen had built in Zbrush. Doesn't work. Seriously, it doesn't.
This is one major reason why Ada sat down and started building Max in Blender, just to build the Max devkits in Blender as well. Body and devkit not only out of one and the same hand, but out of the same software.

Ps. To be 'happy' with reborn I HEAVILY rely on deformers. But then they are a pain if furniture has physics animation etc..

Yes, I totally get what you say. With Reborn I get it, because the base mesh is so much bigger than other bodies. I feel it would be easier if there was more flexibility on the appearance edit? Dunno, but yeah, it's a pain for everyone.

I've been daily-driving Roth2 v2 for almost five years now. I was an early adopter back then and one of the first OpenSim users who daily-drove BoM.
Among the reasons why I kept it are: a) It's legal and made in and for OpenSim. b) It's free and open-source. c) It's the male mesh body with the most advanced BoM scripting around the Hypergrid. d) It supports alpha masks out of the box whereas Athena 6 and Adonis 4 led everyone to believe that BoM doesn't support alpha masks at all. Seriously, I don't want to daily-drive something that relies on an alpha HUD.
Juno has always been a Ruth2 v4 for the same reasons.
You may say that both are horrendously, repulsively, disgustingly, gut-wrenchingly (insert gratuitous amounts of expletives) hideous, especially seeing as we both use the heads as well.
I say, put some more work into the shape than body height, boob size and butt size, especially into the face, and make those bodies yours.
You may say that there are no clothes for these bodies. Well, there is hardly anything rigged for Roth2 v2 specifically, there is nothing rigged for Ruth2 v4 specifically, and both are rigged a whole lot differently from Ruth 2.0 RC#2/RC#3 and Roth 2.0 RC#1 so that clothes for these are about as hit-and-miss as clothes for anything else.
Still, even against the odds of the menswear ghetto and Roth2's infamously bad rigging, I manage to dress appropriately for many occasions from winter to formal events to beaches (even though beaches require layer swimwear plus a modified sculpty bulge).
As for Juno, she has probably got more outfits than most of you, even though she refuses to wear anything stolen from SL, too. She can dress appropriately for winter, she can dress ACTUALLY casually without looking racy, she can do "business formal", all stuff that I've yet to see Xara, Reborn and Legacy pull off convincingly. That's partially also because she's even more willing to wear layer clothes where they make sense (swimwear, underwear, hosiery, other skin-tight clothes etc.), so she can wear e.g. sheer tights underneath just about everything without having to worry about clipping. And she has probably also got more medium-height shoes than anyone, not even counting her customised pumps and sandals.
Yes, she has temporarily acquired a Simona body and some other SL stuff, but that's only to make a series of NPCs somewhat similar to her, but made of content that's more accepted around here than Ruth2 v4, layer clothes, Clutterfly, Damien Fate, flexi hair, OpenSim-made make-up and meanwhile probably even SLUV skins. She only does that to help reduce the lack of newer NPCs. She won't wear any of that stuff in public, though.
The only bodies that we'd permanently switch to would be the Max bodies, Maxine and Maxwell, the direct successors to Ruth2 v4 and Roth2 v2 from the same team that have been in development since 2023. Technology-wise, they'll be very similar to Ruth2 v4 and Roth2 v2, but they'll have completely new meshes made in Blender rather than Zbrush, and they're licensed under Creative Commons rather than the GPL. It just remains to be seen which already existing (legal) clothes work with these bodies.

They're a case of "it's done when it's done" with no deadline set.

I really dont use perky in any body. doesnt interest me . I would love to see more legacy things as they are limited here. i see more Athena items and reborn. would be nice to have more legacy in the stores.

I'm maybe too new here iin OS to answer but I don't really use perky bodies, never did and never will. I have them all but I don't use them. In all honesty I only see myself jumping among Legacy, Athena, LaraX and Reborn

I use legacy perky body, same as SL. My prefered body for years was Tonic Fine body in SL, but that's obsoleted now and Legacy is about as close as one can get to Tonic Fine out here (as far as I know).
I don't know a lot about male bodies and can't comment on them.

I haven't experimented too much with female bodies though I'm not opposed to trying them at some point. I use the Ruth 2.0 RC3 body (not the head) for multiple reasons: it was made in Opensim, it adapts easily to my own skin and shape, the huds are very user-friendly and detailed, and my complexity stays around 70K. In SL I've always been a Maitreya girl :-)
For my male dance partner I use Gianni, since the Roth 2.0 male is absolutely horrendous. Gianni looks great and the hud is decent. The legacy hud was too clunky for me.

I still prefer my trusty Athena and LaraX bodies, but I do have a collection. I use Lara and LaraX in SL as well. I don't like the extreme bodies with big hips etc. My fellas seem to prefer the Gianni. Thank you for all of you hard work! Not just avies, but decor and landscaping!

I am quite happy with Gianni--the best HUD I have worked with. There are lots of outfits and accessories--but I'm always looking for more clothes! and between the HUD and alphas I can also find a lot of non-Gianni clothes I can make work. Not bad, but trailing Gianni a lot, I'd say Legacy Athletic is my other body choice, again because the HUD is pretty good.

I realize i am in the minority and that is ok. I use jake because that is what i use in sl and that is what i am comfy with. Clothes are really a pain in the butt to find...BUT...i find that i won't wear 95% of the mens clothing i see. I base my avatar after me in rl, my traits, preferences and in many cases...ideals. (ikr hard to believe that less than 100% of men have washboard abs for 100% of their adult life, right? ;) So basically, take my input with a grain of salt. But thanks so much for the variety of high quality skins, body hair, etc. I assembled my look, but Aurora made most of it possible! yayyy tytyty

I have all the bodies, and the truth is that I don't get complicated with the clothes, if it's nice and I like it I change the body because the shape and the head fit for all of them and except for the reborn body I use a shape configured for it, but being in opensim that everything is free, I don't tie myself to a single body nobody notices the difference when I change them because when I keep the shape I always look the same :D thanks for asking Aurora, a hug and thanks for all the things you bring and the effort you make, I love you 1000 ♥

In SL and OpenSim I always used Gianni, simply because the HUD was better and more complete. For men I like a masculine body, but nowadays I find the Gianni too bulky (specially the arms). The hud is a very important factor for me and works a little differently in opensim. So I might consider switching to Legacy.
For female body's I prefer the Reborn body. It's so versatile.

Personally I don't use perky versions, but I know that quite a few of people do. From my female friends, I would say around 10-20% uses either Legacy perky or Athena petite. Gianni: never used it myself :)) but in my male friends group I do see the same shift Hicks mentioned: It's still popular but because of more and better clothes becoming available for Legacy m, many of them are moving to Legacy m.

Thanks for the input! Yes, 'problem' is that perky/petite versions have different rigging, so you have to bring 2 versions per type of body...
