There's no such thing as an official Clubmaster v2.2
One rumour that keeps going around the Hypergrid is that Áine Caoimhe has released a Clubmaster Dance Machine v2.2 at some point in the past.
I myself got my hands on three "v2.2" Clubmasters:
- the Clubmaster Dance Machine v2.2 as available from Paramour Shopping
- a teal Clubmaster Dance Machine v2.2 (2019)
- the Clubmaster Dance Machine v2.2 Sex Edition
And I took myself some time and compared all three with an official v2.1 Clubmaster.
First of all, none of the three look like an official Clubmaster. The Sex Edition is of course red, the (2019) is teal as I've already said, and what's being offered as an official v2.2 is a disco ball hanging down from a cable. I thought that people had messed with all three, and it could be possible to reconstruct the closest thing to a vanilla v2.2 by looking at the differences, merging changes in the newer controller scripts that must have obviously been done by Áime into the 2.1 controller script and finally putting everything that looks official into a golden v2.1 Clubmaster.
So the first thing that struck me was that there is no v2.2 dance controller script. The version number of the controller scripts in all three "v2.2" Clubmasters is still v2.1.
In fact, the controller script in the disco ball offered as official is vanilla except for one difference that marks it unofficial: The dance machine identifies itself as a "Speakeasy Dance Machine" rather than a "Clubmaster Dance Machine". The one in the teal (2019) variant had some colours changed, the NPC dancers were renamed from "Dance Partner" to "Kroatan Dancer" which means that this is a dance machine customised for the now-defunct Kroatan Grid, and the entire Matchmaker code was removed. If the latter had been an official change, the readme notecard would have been updated accordingly, but it wasn't. Finally, the controller script in the Sex Edition is a 100% vanilla v2.1 controller script.
As for the already mentioned readme notecard, it's identical in all four dance machines.
So, except for the aforementioned edits in the controller scripts, are there any other differences?
Well, I guess the differences in the Sex Edition should be clear, given its purpose. New animations including 18 new sets of couple animations in two categories, new nude NPCs.
The "Speakeasy" disco ball has 18 new solo animations, three of which have their own category while the other 15 are squeezed into a fourth inspite of there only being nine buttons available. The NPCs remain unchanged.
The (2019) variant has the same set of animations, but the NPCs were all replaced.
So here's my verdict:
- The "Speakeasy" disco ball was custom-made, probably for a specific location. The contents of a Clubmaster v2.1 were poured into a disco ball, new solo animations were added, and the identification of the whole thing was changed. Curiously, it was not renamed which leads to the false impression of it being official. However, both the total "change in style" coming with what the version number suggests to be a minor release and the way the new solo animations were integrated suggest that this was definitely not Áine's doing.
- The (2019) variant isn't official either, nor is it based on an official v2.2. The controller script still bears the version number 2.1. The Matchmaker feature was removed that's still present in the other two v2.2 dance machines. The readme still refers to a v2.1, and it doesn't mention the removal of the Matchmaker. Also, I'm not even sure if that point in 2019 which the name of the machine hints at was still within Áine's lifetime.
- The Sex Edition has a vanilla v2.1 controller script and a vanilla v2.1 readme. What it actually is is a third-party bugfix update for Pagane's v2.1 Sex Edition which has a few bugs. I'm not even sure if this update came from Pagane herself.
- Since all three are obviously unofficial, and since there is neither an official v2.2 controller script nor an official v2.2 readme notecard to come along with it, the newest and last official Clubmaster released by Áine herself is the v2.1.
If you're looking for an official, vanilla Clubmaster, get yourself a v2.1. v2.0 is outdated, and all v2.2 are third-party mods.

This is Aine's Clubmaster. Right before she left for Breast Cancer Treatment she was in the process of updating to the release 2.2 which was a beta release (which is why it is in different primwork) and in the process of testing. It holds the label "Speakeasy" because Speakeasy Dance Club is where she was testing and weekly dance parties occur there. Since she was not only a grid admin but a resident of the grid, she could manipulate it at the dances for fixes, etc... It was never completed and left at the state that it is in that box. Unfortunately, things went downhill for Aine and she was never able to return. 2.2 had some additional NPC's and some bugfixes she was working on (to be honest, I didn't get a chance to ask her what the specific differences were but I recall it having something to do with new OSSL commands). There is no "official" V2.2 this is simply the beta state in base primwork which was being used for testing that she left when she fell ill. There are about 100 variations of her dance ball all over Opensim. The silver ball v2.2 is that "beta" in testing release she left with us. Since this has caused some sort of controversy with everyone 2.2 has been removed and replaced with 2.1 which was the final active release from Aine. v2.2 unless someone already has it will no longer be available to the public. On a side note, Aine not only had her regions on Littlefield, she was also a grid admin. She was a close personal friend to me not only in world but in Real Life. Aine's last remark to me on the danceball was she was doing whatever this 2.2 update was and she wasn't going to update it further for reasons I will not get into here, however, now I'm starting to understand why. Rather than speculate, you could simply have asked the people that actually KNEW Aine and we could have explained this, it's not like any of us are difficult to contact. As all of you are well aware, all of Aine's content is FP and transferable to any grid. That's why there are variations all over the place. This was her request and we have honored that and left her region accessible to everyone as long as Littlefield is active. For those of you who are looking for some nefarious logic between Littlefield and what danceball is located there, you should be ashamed of yourselves. We host these regions for Aine in her memory and there's no benefit at all for us to alter anything there. It is as she left it. I guess this is what happens when you try to do something nice in someone's memory.

I didn't know that you knew her in person, at least not before I started examining the dance machines, otherwise I would have asked you. So my assumption was that you weren't that close to her, and you falsely took a "Clubmaster v2.2" box which had Áine's name on it for official, also seeing as how many people have slapped "v2.2" on Clubmasters they have upgraded themselves, causing a whole lot of confusion.
At the end of the day, it's your decision which Clubmaster to offer in Áine's name. Knowing all this, I'd suggest offering both and adding an explanation to the box with the Speakeasy dance machine. But again, it's your decision and not mine.

Well considering it was all on Littlefield Grid and has been since Aine moved there, and she is listed as a grid admin, common sense would have been to ask the grid owner for the info. I'm just going to leave v2.1 out so nobody thinks we're trying to perpetuate some hoax that we created the v2.2. The whole "official" thing is really nonsense anyway if you want to get down to it. Frankly, whatever build works for the person using it is the build I would think. That's why Aine made it the way she did allowing Full Perm alteration of all of it.

That's what I've already written about. It's the relabeled guts of a v2.1 plus extra NPCs poured into a disco ball not made by Áine.
I'm going to pay Walter a visit, tell him about that thing which he has put there himself and give him a genuine, original v2.1, made and packaged by Áine in case he doesn't have one.

Not only is this a very useful synopsis of a pretty much universally used tool, it's also really great to see the Article feature on OSW being used!

The Clubmaster v2.0 does work. I guess even a v1.21 would still work today. But v2.1 has some improvements and extra single dances.

Great info Jupiter. Thanks for the research. I am so thankful to Áine Caoimhe for the Club Master and all the other wonderful things she gifted the community. Thank you to Littlefield Grid for keeping her region up. It may show offline, but hop anyway, you will get there. She was loved, and she is missed, may she rest in peace.

It is our pleasure. We loved Aine, and as I've mentioned in the past, she was our friend in RL. We were supposed to meet with her in person at our annual grid admin's meeting in Philadelphia the month after she fell ill and unfortunately she was never able to come. She went downhill very quickly after that. I don't want to get into specifics here, but it was a very sad situation and it makes all of the owners of Littlefield upset discussing the final e-mail from her daughter outlining her decline. Although her daughter really had no idea what her mother was up to regarding the virtual world, Aine's contribution to Opensimulator in my opinion is some of the most important content we have, particularly that danceball. It will always be available - now in it's 2.1 state at her region. And yes, her beacon sometimes shows offline, but it is up 24x7 365, has been for 12 years, and will continue to be up as long as Littlefield is in existence. It's a shame everything in Opensim has to be some kind of controversy. Our apologies if this caused some kind of "mystery" for everyone. We could have resolved that if anyone had bothered to ask us.

Agreed. I've been scratching my head over this one trying to understand just what the controversy is, since this is a full perm item and nearly ubiquitous in Opensim. As a creator, all my items are copy and modify so users can change them any way they like. As long as no one is pretending to be me and trying to sell my stuff I'm good.

It's all part of the Opensimulator "community" (and I use that word lightly) and everything being some kind of scandal or controversy. This is why Littlefield doesn't generally get involved in any of these comments, but I felt that I needed to clear the air on this one since it's being made into some kind of conspiracy, and that not only isn't the intent, but not what Aine would have wanted. Again - the simple answer was to simply ASK us what the situation was.....
