I use wolf viewer on my grid. It's been rewritten in c#, which is far more modern and full of advancements from microsoft corporation. These advancements allow stuff like: Wolf Grid literally brought in the ENTIRE country of IRELAND. An exact replica. It's 40,000 regions...

My opinion about this is and a good real-life comparison would be:
If someone builds their own car and spends years developing a custom engine, software, and special features for it, people driving other cars are not automatically entitled to demand those same features for themselves.
The fact that all cars use the same roads does not make someone else’s work public property.
We already accept this principle everywhere else in OpenSim. Even items sold in OpenSim stores can be No Copy, No Mod, or No Transfer. Creators decide what permissions their work has, and people are expected to respect that. Nobody says, “I use OpenSim too, so I should automatically get full rights to everything you made.”
This viewer was built around Wolf Territories and its own infrastructure. Lone has put countless hours into creating and refining it. People are free to use Firestorm or another viewer if that suits their needs better, but complaining that Wolf’s custom features are not available everywhere shows very little respect for the work behind them.
Not everything someone creates has to be handed over to everyone else.

I am sure Lone Wolf can confirm that there are people outside of his ecosystem who are very interested in what is being developed. I imagine anyone contributing to the effort will benefit in some way from it.

I think people misunderstand something about this product. The advanced features are designed with our grid, which runs an advanced and unique infrastructure. Lone has made that clear for years. Just like some other grids run their own versions of OS. This product is designed to be optimized on Wolf Territories. It works beautifully as a Firestorm replacement and is superior in many ways. But the advanced features are specifically for our custom infrastructure and configuration. Lone is not going to restrict capabilities because it reminds people their grid is running a different configuration. You don't get the features at all in Firestorm.
As for the splash page always being WT - it's called branding. :) You can always use FS if you want to see the other grids' pages.

A major drawback is that the map in WV doesn't work in Second Life, (an, I assume, any Opensim world other than WT) nor wil URIs pasted into chat work. This is a major limitation, basically a deal breake, and takes the open out of Opensim.

With all due respect, that's not helpful, especially when the capabilities have clearly been stripped from the original Firestorm viewer. Of course you are entitled to release viewers in the way you wish, but it seems a little petty and short-sighted to remove standard features so it end up effectively as a hobbled, Wolf Territories only viewer.

I am using the Windows version. You need to port over your settings from your firestorm and it will populate fine. Jimmy is having no issue. I am using mine in Second Life as well, and it is STELLAR.

Thanks Xenon! Why I didn't think of that myself I don't know... I can only put it down to slight brain fog caused by a mild vaccination reaction. Gettingold has its downsides!

Not taking anything away from this new viewer, but I assume that terrains textured with the terrain painting on that - don't look the same when viewed with a "normal" viewer?

Yeah, you don't get all the features because some of them require our infrastructure. But I hear people are using it on Second LIfe even.

I DO think this looks great. Its like a lot of things though - it only really comes into its own when it has critical mass. When most people are using it, then great. But when that isnt the case - you still need to make sure things look good without it.
