Thank you Dorena. As you know, I have gotten myself into some hot bother challenging the far-right in these pages, with one delightful individual going as far as to call me "Commie cunt Suzi" a slogan i now proudly wear as a tattoo on my left boob in all the virtual worlds I am in!
It's a particularly prescient reminder as this week, on Thursday 7th May my country, Cymru (Wales) has it's Senedd (Parliameent) elections and this time we have a new system, an expanded Senedd, increasing from 60 members to 96. The voting system is also changing, and will be a fully proportional system, which should give fairer representation. However, it's also a time of political change, and the Labour Party, the dominant political force in Cymru for over 100 years is set to be eclipsed and is predicted to come third place behind the national party, the left-leaning Plaid Cymru, and the far-right Reform UK led by Trump acolyte Nigel Farage. Both are neck and neck in the polls, but it's unlikely that either party will have the 49 seats needed to form a government. It is hoped that Plaid Cymru will be able to form either a minority government, or, if they get enough seats, to form a coalition, preferably with the Green Party, who for the first time are likely to gain a few seats, or less than ideally, with the diminished Labour Party. Reform UK are likely to have strong representation, but are so toxic (they stir up division, are xenophobic and many of their candidates have murky pasts associated with the fascist movements in the UK) they are unlikely to be able to form a government, but they are not seeking to do that anyway, as all they seek to be is a disruptive force. I refer to Reform UK as Farage's Fascists, for that is what I believe they really are, even though they try to maintain a 'respectable' image, just as a certain A Hitler did in the earlier days, and people voted for him because they were hurting and the mainstream political parties had ignored them for too long... This is what is happening all over the world, and Cymru is faced with a stark choice on Thursday.
