The conversations I've witnessed between vegan/vegetarians and carnivores at a meal typically start with a question from the later. A collection of the "stupidest questions from carnivores" includes "don't you feel guilty about killing that carrot"? Well, the fact is that life eats life to survive. The only question is, "what will you choose to kill in order to live?" Right now I'm rather enjoying the demise of these chocolate chip cookies.
I remember calling a friend and asking what they were doing. He said, "Waiting around for this chicken to commit suicide." Perhaps I'll open a Roadkill Restaurant for these kind of ethical eaters....
I'm friends with quite a few farmers and I've been around on chicken killing day...lol. Honestly I'd rather (when possible) eat meat that's been raised on a small scale farm where the chickens at least had a good life before killing day as opposed to being penned up their whole lives.
There are a number of reasons people cut down, or stop, their consumption of meat, including the humane treatment of animals. I think you've found a good solution. I used to visit a small farm to get my eggs. I knew all of the names of the chickens, and knew the owners treated Bertha and the rest kindly.
