No IM's and just local??
OK, here's topic I don't recall seeing before. What if a sim disallowed IM's inside it's borders? A blanket ban that prevented any but local chat.
Let me start it off by explaining why I even consider it. Ruritania is a social sim, I am proud that folks there get on well together and enjoy their VR. However I often do see times when residents stay inside their parcels hidden and just use IMs all the time. As parcels are set private then for visitors it can seem the sim is empty. Our dance at weekends can be busy but silent because of this too. I'd much prefer a constant babble even if it's just silly chat. Forcing local would make anyone have to get closer to talk, just like in RL. Sitting together at the café instead of being on a mobile all the time.
I know this has many pros and cons, would be happy to hear your views .

I'd mostly agree with that, also because in some situations people seem to get telepathic powers and you as only person not being up to date with the IM conversation are ending up side tracked.
On the other hand, in rp (but often also in social) situations a well aimed IM can be extremely helpful to know in which direction to go or to know what you can or cannot expect.
But I'd love to see that experiment in action, no IM's in a whole sim! :-)
