Child AVs are just fine with Linden Labs, and there are plenty of shops with bodies, clothing and furniture for them. It might be useful if child-friendly grids/regions post that in their OSW description, especially in they have shops that, like SL, have items for them.

However, child AV hysteria in OS has driven many non-age play child AVs off of most of OS. I recall when, and why, the hysteria began in Open Sim Grid (about 10 years ago). And, as a result, my non-age play friends moved from OSG to child friendly grids, like Metropolitan. Unfortunately, that means that the child AVs you do see, and most especially in adult regions, are involved in age play. Not all, but too many.

What happened to infinite diversity was this. About 10 years or so ago, an age play grid, where RL child porn was openly displayed, was shut down. Many members of that grid moved to Open Sim Grid, where they engaged in the same behavior that got their grid shut down. They were banned. However, the hysteria about child AVs took hold there and most of my non-age play friends moved to child AV friendly grids, like Metropolitan.
Recently, and unfortunately, AviWorld banned child AVs due to bad actors like Travis Foreskin (my nick-name for the guy) hanging around naked and propositioning kids. Do I dislike him? Yes. Guys like that ruin it for innocent child AVs in OS.

The last I read, the height read by in-world detectors and in the appearance editor is about six inches (0.15m) shorter than you actually are. I've heard that is because they measure the height from your feet to your eyes. However, I've also heard more recent height detectors have corrected that error.

This applies to Second Life, but not to OpenSim. In OpenSim, your avatar is as tall as the shape editor says it is. Source: myself standing next to one of Neovo Geesink's measurement prims.
So when you crank your avatar height all the way up, you're an 8'6" avatar amongst 8'6" avatars in Second Life, but a 9' avatar amongst 6' avatars in OpenSim.

Thanks for letting me know it's fixed in OS. Which means those child detect and eject scripts in OS can be reliably set to the exact height you think is sub-adult. Cool beans.

It wasn't actually fixed. AFAIK, when OpenSim was made, the bug was still unknown in Second Life. Thus, it wasn't deliberately carried over to OpenSim because nobody knew it exists.

/me nods her head as if she understands all that. But I can say that any AV with an Athena mesh body and shorter than 5'4" has a distorted shape. The butt is too big, and not in a good way, and angled wrong. Your size is reasonable by RL standards and realistic for an Athena mesh body.
