Welcome to the Opensim Public Library - Homelandz branch! Pop in from time to time to get actual, readable, full books, for free! Turning pages, rez or wear as HUD! Full perm so feel free to play mad scientist, create your own books, etc!
Note: The script is incredibly basic for version 1. You can "add" and it attaches to center of your screen. Enlarge/resize as need be, for larger print, easier to read.
Any kind souls from the community willing to improve and/or expand the script, more than welcome to send revisions and we will update all items as we go. Ideas of improvements include: -backward turning of pages (mistakes happen), skip to specific page number, bookmark a page to save progress, and, most importantly, converting the script to read pictures 2 at a time, from the inventory, rather than the UUID, which wants to read 2 pages images (image with 2 full pages per picture). Doing so would reduce time to make a book from days/hours, to minutes/seconds...by skipping the step of screen shotting 2 page per image, and also skipping step of programming uuid into script. (unless anyone knows of a pdf converter that will save single page images into 2 pages per 1 image?)

I went there looking for a book to read, but sadly i could not find where you stuck it. All the other books in the library would not come out of the shelves. Also every computer was being used by someone. I waited. No one ever left. :(

funny man. npc's at the computer are just for show. The Canterbury Tales would not be under T for The, nor T for Tales. it is under C for canterbury. the hop location is accurate, and can help you hone in on which shelf is "C"; or, you can simply check the name of each bookshelf, to see how it is laid out. "A" is the start of the back wall, and, moving right/clockwise, we find B through M. N continues upstairs as you get up there, and wraps around to Z, and then finally, the Magazines shelf. All are labeled, and, you are correct, with it taking me at least a full week and countless hours, the way the current script is setup, it is impossible for me to have at least 1 of each letter. We can ordain that as more novels are completed, more shelves/letters will have books, especially if a kind citizen reads my notes and wants to help add features and make the scripts faster and easier to make books :)

If we get a script in the future that displays 2 pages at a time...BUT...reads a seperate image per page, and reads alphanumerically from the book contents rather than UUID in script...then we can go from 1 book each week or 2, to 1 book within a few minutes, and possibly dozens of books per week. I do not know how to script, nor how to automatically convert a pdf into hundreds of auto numbered images with 2 pages per image. rather than spend hours/days/weeks per book, i would prefer to spend minutes :)

Just a footnote, if ya enjoy the free books, and happen to have a few Gloebits burning a hole in ya pocket, why not poke your nose in the Remation store nearby on same region? Remmy Ravenhurst works super hard on original mesh, legal items with original texturing by herself in most cases...after all, it is wonderful when opensim users show each other support and encouragement of further diversifying Opensim to be a seperate entity that stands on our own legs proudly, apart from SL. :) Thanks to all who work hard to make Opensim a beautiful and happy and safe place!
