If you want to know what's up with Lani: It's no longer around.
Lani Global had left OpenSim years ago, but she had promised to keep Lani online. But while Lani did keep the mall online, she just left it running as-is, and she never upgraded the underlying OpenSim software. I think it was perpetually stuck at 0.8.2.1 which was the current stable release when Lani left.
Eventually, I think, a point was reached at which sims running OpenSim 0.8.2.1 could no longer be attached to OSgrid. So either Lani shut the mall down, or she's still keeping it running, unaware that OSgrid has rejected it because she's completely out of touch with what's happening in OpenSim.
