In 30 BC, Egypt became an official Roman province. Daily life in Egypt changed little under Roman rule. Egypt became one of the most important provinces of Rome as a source of grain and as a trade center.
When Rome split in the 4th century, Egypt became a part of the Eastern Roman Empire (also called Byzantium).

Egypts relationship with Rome - The rich lands of Egypt became the property of Rome after the death of Cleopatra VII in 30 BCE, which spelled the end of the Ptolemaic dynasty that had ruled Egypt since the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BCE.
After the murder of Gaius Julius Caesar in 44 BCE, the Roman Republic was left in turmoil.
