So you choose how many prims you want 7500 up to 1.2 million.

wow that is alot at 1.2 million

to some of my users.... it seems not ROFL. Yes so the thing that costs server resources is actually not the size of the land but the prims and scripts - so you can choose what prims you want and always upgrade later.

Too true, I've even tried flying high into the air, no luck. They wear little oxygen masks.

I think I've created a drama by helping someone fix their region. Go me.

Lone, honestly, I think you did a good deed. It didn't turn into a drama, but the hypocrisy of certain individuals who pay for a service and advertise it as an act of love and sacrifice on the part of the service provider when assistance is actually included seems ridiculous to me.

You did a good deed, and Boam's grids are worth 1/100000000000 of what you can create.

You're not paid, she's not your client unlike Boam who profits from it, so the thanks should primarily go to you.

Best regards! :)

lol I thought it was common knowledge, in land area we are bigger than any other grid and SL.

https://www.hypergridbusiness.com/2024/01/opensim-starts-n...

We're close on having more monthly users than OSGRID as well.

Yeah it's hilarous our grid would cost 28960 x $249 per month = $7,211,040 a month. Yes folks $7.2 million.

This arent SL server costs. (if google translated right for me) Thats usury in SL. A money machine. OS is for the free people, and grid owner do it for a hobby and to make people have fun. Even for those with smaller wallets. Thank you for that! Sad thing is that those in SL are still advice resistant and follow rumors there that OS is technicaly bad..no mesh..etc etc...Then let them pay :-( I also had a sim there and learned the hard way..Monthly "rent" isnt all: There also you have to pay for a sim first (around real 800 USD), plus premium account....pay for uploads (each texture for 100 L$ lol) and so on

Yes SL is expensive but I think that's because servers WERE expensive when they started up. I *THINK* they use AWS which is really expensive to run. I built up servers in the myloc data centre in Dusseldorf and have developed my own infrastructure rather than relying on cloud services. Although I do use cloudflare's services a lot as they really help the grid.

LL has their own servers since years. So no rent costs some place else. And an army of employees. They fired many some years ago. This is in no relation of costs they have compared to a sim cost with all the traps like premium etc. You know yourself what one simple sim (with max 20k prim on it like in SL) would really cost, and so what income they have. I wont spend a cent there anymore.

Yup. 20k 256x256 with modern server tech is nothing - the smallest I do is 1024x1024 its just not worth people renting 256x256 when I can do a 1024x1024 for £10 a month (about 12 us)

I think that's an interesting point - but clustering resources like we do is more about performance and load balancing than being hacked. Honestly, I don't think because a service has down time it's more secure than one that is in a resource sharing situation. But I do get your point, for instance, if you had a mariadb cluster that got hacked, the data would be corrupted across all of the cluster - but, that's why we keep backups. Having a database cluster for instance allows us to load balance request across the cluster which provides latency on the databases and removes lag.

TBH You can spend a fortune on servers and build a terrible system. It's not about the money. I have autism and I just got obsessed with seeing what was possible with an enterprise infrastructure.

it's not all me though - the guys at OpenSim NGC have been amazing. There's so many who have helped contribute. Especially the community that has grown out of this!

That wasn't against you Wolf. I just wanted to make it clear, after OsGrid is blasphemed, that they live from donations. Of course, good and even more so redundant hardware also costs "some" money.
