Wasn't expecting a reply from the man himself but that's ok, at least you know where my mind was at. The rant was designed to get people to walk up and see the drama being spread around on the front page for what it was. Best way is a healthy bucket of truth. It's direct and does not discriminate, and I won't apologize for it. Since we've shifted the topic a bit, I'd have to agree. I'd rather have folks on either OSG or GCG. Both are very here for the community but have different approaches to it. People get upset with whatever it is their doing and think they can run their own grid, only to whine later when they can't. Personally I'd put server operatorship behind a form if their going to strike out on their own, would nip it in the bud.
In regards to the other thing, true or not, I wouldn't want hypergriders coming onto my site and spread drama everywhere for shock value. Any new person that comes to the site and sees that will turn around and go back where they came from. They want to dump their drama, it goes here - it's what the section was designed for. It takes a new kind of special to purposely avoid this section to air whatever drama people feel is right for shock value. You'd think if there was any truth to it, there'd be evidence of it. I haven't seen any. Talking about the inventory flooding, not the copyboting. Everyone copybots. It's why the major players won't leave SL - it's still a security risk. I still retain my thoughts that any grid owner that uses admin tools for personal gain is stupid and should hang up their grid. Anyone that uses admin tools to benefit their community should be praised. The difference is the intent. The same goes for copyboting: if you bot for personal gain you deserve to have your pc stricken from OpenSim. Again, all in the intent.
And yes, there are still dependencies in Opensim code. A major one is called LSL. Devs started to get this right with OpenSim specific calls but haven't developed any further ones. Another is mesh, winch still hasn't been perfected. It's not as broken as SL's mesh, but it is still based on and uses code from it(it's why whenever SL updates something in the mesh, OpenSim is the last to get anything out of it). The environment as a whole is a major one. Anyone that comes to OpenSim and says 'this is a SL clone' is proving the point. The bigger point is going back to what I was saying earlier about changing OpenSim: we see the same environment but don't want to change it because it's what we know and trust. Doesn't mean pointing out what it is, is any less.
That said, my points and directness are here to dispel drama with truth. Don't get me wrong, I'm very much for a open virtual environment that gets people involved to bring out their creative sides. Drama's dangerous. Drama turns a happy person into a lunatic. I stick by my points.
