We also thought long and hard about placing our mall on the ground. The problem with the lag is not primarily due to the scripts, but rather to the fact that people get high physics when uploading meshes. If the mesh does not need to be walkable, such as deco, it should be uploaded as a bounding box and phantom. Ofcourse we got unlimited Prims in OS but the large mesh and high physics can make the region unusable. Thats why we swapped from full mesh to mesh & primitives to improve loading times. Just as small tipp :) but another Idea for your Shop, how its about a demo rezzer for your furniture with picture display like CasperVend in Secondlife? :)

And TOTALLY on physics. Only been about a year here and it's been a learning process (like learning the importance of material layers!!), but I'm MRS. BOUNDING BOX.
I have found that VERY FEW things beg anything other than bounding box. In fact, even low prim buildings work perfectly with bounding box too.
And sometimes, even if it begs more than bounding box, it can be uploaded separately with different bounding boxes :P
