If we (OS) are the future, it will be dependent on getting more young people here. I'm listening to what they see, experience & share to better know what will draw more of them to VWs.

Most young people have never even heard of SL. Most of those who have believe what mass media imply, namely that SL was shut down around 2008/2009. The rest believes that the concept of virtual worlds as well as the term "Metaverse" have been invented by Mark Zuckerberg, just like Zuckerberg has allegedly invented the concept of social networks, Apple has invented the smartphone, and Microsoft has invented the graphical user interface or the operating system while we're at it.

Besides, something that's free and open-source is uncool and something for pimply nerds with no life, something that doesn't require level-grinding is boring, and young gamers would never touch anything that doesn't run the latest, greatest high-end graphics engine.

We just had a great community building event with Open Sim Fest2022. Something I shared there:
COMMUNITY - EVERY ONE OF US

Whether or not we participate, we are all contributing to the community.

How and what we contribute is up to each one of us. We each have unique qualities that will either add or detract from the mix.

Some will add beauty and grace; some will add drama and dissension. All will leave a trace.

What would you like to get from community? What would you like for your contribution to be? What if you get back what you put in? Will you be nurtured, supported, enlivened, inspired, accepted, loved?

------------------ The Two Wolves Inside You ------------------

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, "My son, the battle is between two "wolves" inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

200? I've only been in OS for 6 months and I have 200 friends. There are many more than that. One friend said there were as many as on SL, they are just spread out, but more active. When I was last on SL highest population was about 53K for big event; average 35K. I figure at least half of those are alts. OS is the future. BTW, Sarte also wrote about the mind - body split.

200 friends? That's probably 10 or maybe 15 people in real life. [/Sarcasm]

Thank you. This speaks to many things I ponder as I learn about OS. Four months in I think the best use of my time & abilities is supporting established grids rather than starting my own. Attractive AVs and help getting them mounted is critical to retention. I would like the OS History 101 Why Things Are Free course. I've reaped the benefits but don't understand the underlying principles or how it can be sustainable. Many of us from SL do not mind spending money and we are used to what is state of the art. The talent is in OS and the opportunities here far surpass SL's. I hope everyone will be promoting Open Sim Fest 2022 as a way to introduce others to OSs. We are, to support Kitely and the places that have welcomed us there. Veri's Vagaries
