"OS is a closed society" is pretty contradictory don't you think? It might hurt to think about it, but everyone in the world is damaged in one way or another. No one is perfect. Virtual reality is indeed virtual, but it's still reality. We use it to feed our minds and hearts, to experience what we might not achieve in life. Happiness and sadness from VR does transfer into our daily lives. Some feel it's synthetic, but is it? It makes our natural chemicals run. I don't know, maybe it's just a trigger. I remember in my youth looking at the older ones as grumbling old men and women, but try and consider that their generation is why your generation took it's first breath. I'm an old one. Have you considered that it is the old grumblers that are responsible for writing the first code? For building the first computers? VR wouldn't be where it is today if that didn't happen. They have lived a life without VR in their youth. So, think about that. Is VR actually beneficial or is it destructive? I think it all depends on how you utilize it. The novel sounds interesting and I should probably have read it before commenting, but, I didn't so maybe try and remember, don't let the writings of one person cloud the built in instinct and thought process that gives us tolerance and love. Everyone has cruelty inside of them, everyone has defeats, everyone has layers. Not everyone will agree on a common goal and cooperation only works if there is a common goal. Try and be a little more tolerant of older people and their quirks. You might even find some value in it. If not, well be happy in knowing their days are due to end much sooner than yours, and don't forget, one day, you're going to be an old grumbler yourself. Edit: LOL so old people need glasses sometimes too, and I read your post without mine. I see I interpreted it completely wrong. Oh well. What the hell. Have a nice day.
