Giving in to temptation robs us of joy and effectiveness, and destroys our witness. We can easily overcome temptation with consistant habits and self discipline. Join us this morning for a delightful review of the neccesary skills and the many pitfalls that trip us up.
We are blessed to be where we are and when we are. We look around and can see ancient scripture leaping off the pages of the Bible and coming to life around us. How are we to comport ourselves in this prophecied generation? The Bible has clear instruction for us, and we will see clearly tonight our obligations and blessings.
Godliness is being faithful to our calling by doing the good works for which we were saved. Our good works demonstrate our salvation, and they help our faith continue to grow. Godliness—thinking rightly and acting rightly—is a powerful witness to those around us.
Many of us grew up with our parents reminding us, “Make sure to say your prayers.” Others may have never been encouraged to pray, but have heard that people do as an important part of their day. Either case can lead us to ask the question, Why is prayer important?
Finding God and experiencing His grace was never meant to be this endless scavenger hunt or massive jigsaw puzzle where you hope you get all the pieces in the right place. But with all the different religions and philosophies, a lot of people are confused. But God expressed himself and clarified his grace in a way we could understand by becoming a man through his Son Jesus.
Salvation by grace through faith is at the heart of the Christian religion. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8–9). The statement has three parts— salvation, grace, and faith—and they are equally important. The three together constitute a basic tenet of Christianity.
Tonight we will look at the progression in Scripture of the implementation of salvation through faith.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4: 6-7
We will hold a memorial service In remembrance of MrEarl Jumanji on Tuesday, June 29th at noon. Please join us as we celebrate this extraordinary person. Please share your memories and help others that may have not known him well get a glimpse of his wit and richness of character.
Your life is important to God! It was God’s idea to create you. God chose you! It was God’s idea to develop a plan for your life. It was God’s idea to send His Son Jesus into the world to die for your sins so you could be called to faith. Psalm 139 gives insight into how important you are to Him and how much He pays attention to you.
"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord." 1 Cor.15:58. Steadfastness is an essential principle in Christian character. There can be no success nor prosperity in the Christian life when this principle is wanting. This is true steadfastness. It is cleaving to God, let the storms rage as they may. It is resting and abiding in Jesus though the trials of life may be the severest possible. It is a firm, fixed, settled decision to abide in doctrines of the Bible. It is to rest confidingly upon the teaching and promises of the Holy Scriptures. Just as a man lies confidently down to rest upon his bed, so a Christian, in his steadfastness, rests confidingly, rests without fear, upon the never-changing Word of God.
The main reason we should trust God is that He is worthy of our trust. Unlike men, He never lies and never fails to fulfill His promises. “God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” (Numbers 23:19; Psalm 89:34)
We all wonder what heaven will be like. Will we be bored, sitting on a cloud, playing a harp for eternity? Or maybe standing in one place, singing hymns over and over? If you think heaven is something like that - you really need to come Sunday morning :P
Revelation is the most misinterpreted book of the bible, with it's majestic imagery and mysterious language. Tonight we will look into Revelation Chapter 4, and unlock the wonderful meanings hidden there, and debunk a lot of the nonsense that has grown around it.
Many Christians believe that God will allow our pets to cross over into heaven after they die so they can be with us for all of eternity. However, just as many other Christians do not believe that any of our pets will be crossing over to be with us. So what does the Bible have to say on this issue?
There are countless reasons to believe in Jesus. Many of us start on our journey of faith because we need something that Jesus can give us. We need help, hope, healing, or joy. Our lives are falling apart, and we want answers, solutions. But there’s one critical reason to believe in Jesus that underlies all others, and that is to bring us into right relationship with God. Reconciliation with God is the remedy for all that’s wrong with us and the resolution for everything we need.
If you google this subject, you will see the whole spectrum of wild theories on "The Mark". As Christians, there is only ONE source of truth, the Word of God. Lets dig in and see what the Bible actually tells us.
“The gospel is not a doctrine of the tongue, but of life. It cannot be grasped by reason and memory only, but it is fully understood when it possesses the whole soul and penetrates to the inner recesses of the heart.”
― John Calvin
"The inner essence of worship is to know God truly and then respond from the heart to that knowledge by valuing God, treasuring God, prizing God, enjoying God, being satisfied with God above all earthly things. And then that deep, restful, joyful satisfaction in God overflows in demonstrable acts of praise from the lips and demonstrable acts of love in serving others for the sake of Christ." John Piper
What can we glean from the commandment 'don't kill'? Out of this seeming economy of words, and Jesus' commentary on it, we can see graphically how to live a rich full life in peace with our neighbors and ourselves.
"You may readily judge whether you are a child of God or a hypocrite by seeing in what direction your soul turns in seasons of severe trial. The hypocrite flies to the world and finds a sort of comfort there. But the child of God runs to his Father and expects consolation only from the Lord's hand." Charles Spurgeon
Today we let Matthew Chapter 21 instruct us on the Fathers' patience, and His understanding of our mercurial natures. This parable of the two sons parallel our own dispositions, thereby giving us assurance that our Father understands the pause between commitment and fulfillment we often have.
Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope." Today we draw from the book of Habakkuk, and Habakkuks' concern for Gods' perceived inaction in a time of distress, and how it applies to current events in our lives.
There are few subjects that are more hotly contested, and that strike at the very core of our belief, than election. Do we choose salvation, does God choose us, or is it a mix of both? We'll see what the Bible says, and find our answers there this morning.
It's not easy to change the World - if you don't know how. Tonight I will give you the same principles that guided Elijah to victory over the prophets of Baal, the power that carried Daniel to a place that would change Babylon and Israel forever, and the Providence that propelled Joseph to a position where He could protect his people.
In this world, if we live according to the World, we're kind of like pizza cooked in the microwave instead of in a stove. Fit for nothing but the trash bin. We have to undergo that refining fire of the Holy Ghost to be of use. God wants us to be Holy, and has provided the Way.
What would Jesus say about our bank account, or our investments, our jobs? We all know people that have suffered financially, and maybe WE are suffering and facing yet more uncertain times. How do we talk to those in financial turmoil and distress? Jesus has a message of comfort when things look the worst! This is one of those messages you really need to hear, to give you the strength and courage to face bad economies and more.
