Oh I do agree with you on that part, though SL USED to be a great place to make friends, money and conduct business, etc. It devolved into a cesspool of uneducated, sexually challenged, gender bent, confused political activists who think they know everything and the whole fucking world has to do things their way or die. They want you to enjoy their misery they created.

So in short, what changed SecondLife? The minute it went political.

The intelligent people are gone, the money is going the Bud Light way, the fun parties that used to exist are gone, however through other places the people that we all met and mattered, all stay in touch and connect ELSEWHERE and deservedly so.

It's the result of cancel culture. My last name is aptly named based on how many times I was for over 25+ years of internet experience.I see Fresh's point though that this website should be focused on OpenSim and not toxic SecondLife which is just ONE GRID, though the one that started it all and most famous. I personally indulge in payback and block woketards proactively since it was done to me for years.

However I do think you are partly right OpenLife about fresh's reaction being a bit overboard and hasty. But everyone wanted cancel culture and got it, now they are against it?

One thing I am sick of in life is saying "I told you so" so many freaking times. But alas, it applies again.

They will not survive this, and deservedly so. SecondLife IS a toxic, pedophile amusement park and has been in massive decline since November 2019. Oberwager is incompetent, along with his 2 other political activist investment partners. The 3 of them sank $550 million into a dying company in hopes of turning it around and transforming it. However first order of business, was to ban the intelligent money makers and rely strictly on the freeloading political soldiers.

This was apparent in November 2019, when the mass bannings began. With all of the "conservatives" gone, they figured now the pedos can peacefully engage in age play without offending any conservatives that would report it. 300,000 conservatives banned initially and then more as they were discovered. Of course, by doing so, all of their money went too.

Then the news breaking with proof of the rampant Pedo activity causing SL to scramble through public relations, THIS is just another case of grabbing the cheapy hippy dippy local law firm in San Freakcisco to write something to cover all their bases. It won't make a difference.

Even if that girly man Jake Sullivan wearing his dad's suit wrote this, it will not stop the damage. They can write all the BOLD FULL STOPS, ACTIONS MOVING FORWARD, COMMITMENT TO YOU (That we really hate, but want to let you think we like you) but in the end, will NOT make any change nor stop the damage.

SecondLife needs to die a painful death and deservedly so, along with every single uneducated political simpleton that championed cancel culture. As Crying Chuckie Schumer once said, "Reap the whirlwind". I pray that Oberwager and his 2 woketard investors are brought to court as accomplices for MANY crimes that have been committed other than this issue. Maybe they can cry into their Bezerkly, Stanford and Haavvvaahhd diplomas as the tissues for their issues.

No offense, but you are delusional. None of that rant is even remotely attached to reality. It is entertaining though, so rant on! I am looking forward to the part where you are tying Patch Linden to AOC, the Illuminati and hearing how wind turbines are turning frogs gay.

Oh how very Libtard of you to begin your supposed accusation as "delusional" and trying to tie it to "consipracies".

I really enjoyed reading your less than 140 characters of uneducated, ignorance on full display, because we know you are a self proclaimed expert of everything and an arm chair expert of nothingness. Congratulations on achieving the most useless factless post of the day and welcome to my returned cancel culture. You have made it abundantly clear that you as well as Marcus Sparx, have a severe deficiency in Reading Comprehension.

I am so very glad I offended your poow wittle feewings to the point that you proceeded to make this factless accusation. You have made my day.

If you would really like to know about AOC though, she supposedly lived in my childhood neighborhood in Parkchester in the Bronx. But gee, I apparently don't know anything according to you, so I will not provide you any of those details so you can wallow in astonishment of FOMO.

Patch Linden? Did you mean "PHIL" who began SecondLife? At least try to get SOME facts right in your search for fame and glory simpleton. Now Buh Bye and enjoy your cancel culture treatment Libtard. ;-P

Interesting post Glenn. Where is this information about 300,000 conservative bans? I've never heard about that though I did note a substantial drop in posters on the forums.
Poster above is one of them. I knew many who knew many more and many more. It was the first major act Oberwager committed upon his first log in. He was so experienced in digital worlds he needed staff to teach him how to make his avatar walk. I was there to witness that. Of course, I saved many of the staff conversations as proof, because we all know that they would never allow any evidence of their actions to be published or acknowledged. Just like MSDNC would do. But I assure you, the thousands of us exist and are now in OpenSIm or moved on. Some have even died, as a result of health or old age.

SL managed to survive it's first legal hurdle by banning Gambling and Banking. By moving their servers to Iceland, to avoid paying U.S. taxes. Then around 2017, they moved to the Amazon "cloud". So very responsible and law abiding virtue signalers. Eventually, the E.U. caught up with them and that is why they are on Crapazon servers.

Want to test how much SecondLife cares about you? Try to call a customer service number. You can call billing which winds up being some house bound, blue haired, uneducated and clueless simpleton who doesn't understand laws or basic economics. But try to actually call ANY number you could possibly find at their San Freakcisco HQ. You will be met with either a voicemail that is full or number not working. So very caring of paying customers who they expect to pay $500+ for sims. The best you can do is contact their "Online" chat. And then you are met with arrogance, virtue signaling, incompetence, apathy and more regardless of your financial investment. They prefer freeloaders who offer nothing and merely a number of existence in their statistics.

As for the forums, well if you post anything they disagree with, if you are not politically aligned your post is censored, removed and you are suspended. Even if you provided the correct solution to a problem. Even if you posted something positive for the community. So why would I and thousands of others waste ANY of our time posting on a forum that will only delete or prevent your post from being even entered? Now that we have AI to push the agenda, I am sure SL will jump on that to make censorship way more efficient. Like the NY Post! Check out the massive drops in their article discussions. Go woke, go broke, good riddance.

Vickijoanne, I concur. I also have been in IT for 45+ years as well as dealing with legalities and lawyers all those years. What that incompetent Oberwager said was tin can Legal "cover my ass" garbage. If you read it close enough, it sounds like the U.S. State Dept. wrote it to make sure no one was "offended" but they were legally covered.

As much as I am a person who doesn't follow Allen or Philosophy much, that is a very true statement.

I merely conveyed my opinion that I "personally" don't like Freeman and put zero value upon his opinions. As for Einstein's statement you made, the internet didn't exist until about 20 years after he died.

I agree with your opinion of Allen, because you're right, he was never an actor (I think) lol

So I didn't intend to get into a philosophical debate nor derail this topic into Freeman, merely pointed out the facts of why I discount anything someone types onto a Jpeg image and spreads it around, glorifying Freeman who was just a HS graduate and E3 in the Air Force.

For the benefit of the site, at least it stayed civil and constructive. Instead of the usual As The Grid Turns drama by green goblins living under a bridge charging travelers a toll.

One last thing. You mentioned Morgan Freeman's United States Air Force rank a couple of times. (He turned down a college scholarship to enlist). Fortunately, he wasn't wounded, captured or killed in service. I understand, on good authority, that would have made him a real sucker and loser!

Einstein? Internet? It's a joke. A joke! It illustrates the point I was making. Now, unfortunately, back to the topic, "Famous People and the Things They Never Said."

The reason for attributing a quote to a famous person is not to glorify the person. It's an attempt to persuade someone by use of what I call "borrowed authority."

If I post a picture of myself with the text, "God helps those who help themselves," would anyone even notice it, much less be persuaded by the idea? But use a picture of Jesus instead, and it will be noticed, and likely believed.

Except, Jesus never said that. It was said in 1698 by Algernon Sidney, an English politician, and published by Benjamin Franklin in Poor Richard’s Almanac. I'm not sure either of them were any kind of experts when it came to god. But people who want to promote the idea can borrow the authority granted Jesus by believers to support the statement. (In fact, some consider the expression contrary to the message of the bible).

Borrowed authority. It's a wonderful thing if you want to win an argument by pretending someone well-known said what you want to be believed.
Yes I got the joke part, didn't need it explained. But I appreciate your explanation of borrowed authority, however my only critique of it is can be misinterpreted as plagiarized.

I'm going to just leave it at that, because this really is turning into a long drawn out philosophical debate and needless discussion that completely de-railed the original topic unfairly.

Thanks for the input.

A scientific opinion?
Depends how you define scientific in the context of emotional regulation. Are you measuring or observing? Also need to define what weak, strong and intelligent means. Is he saying that intelligent people have more control over their emotions or is it intelligent to control them? Can someone with a lower IQ than Einstein have control over their emotions making them intelligent? So many questions so little time, would take decades long research and funding to come up with the solutions to it. :)

This saying is based on empirical evidence about the importance of cultivating emotional strength and intelligence. These principles helped Einstein focus on groundbreaking scientific work despite personal challenges.

His forte was mathematics. He is a human making an observed opinion or personal choice.

I can easily disagree with his observed opinion in such that I am strong and intelligent and prefer to address, confront or handle with a choice to ignore.

Can all be summed up in ONE word: Patience.

Personally, I can't stand Morgan Freeman. What he said is true, but spent so many words just to convey a single word, as is typical of him. The guy is literally a HS graduate and only made E-3 in the military, but has convinced the world, that he is some kind of philosophy professor. It's like listening to the wisdom of a convenience store clerk. Because he played some roles, people think his knowledge is divine.
I think the word is actually "Tolerance" because it is through it we develop patience.
liked(1)
Tolerance could apply, but it requires a massive amount of PATIENCE to invoke tolerance having to deal with the intolerant emotionally disturbed.
liked(2)
"Through "tolerance" we develop patience". "Don't allow your emotions to overpower your intelligence."
liked(1)
Patience is a virtue. Tolerance is a performed action. Enough actions will develop into a natural virtue. So don't allow your emotions to overtake your virtue that will affect your intelligence.
liked(1)
Patience is an ability or willingness to suppress restlessness or annoyance when confronted with delay: to have patience with a slow learner. Which is also a performed action. Virtue is thinking and doing what is right and avoiding what is wrong. lol

I can see that being some truth. So essentially what you say is both Patience and Tolerance are learned abilities. When you learn to ride a bike, you learn to balance which becomes a natural ability that you do not have to think about. When you pedal and steer the bike down a long road, you consciously turn left and right, but unconsciously balance. Which do you define patience and tolerance? As steering or balance?

You obviously missed reading that last sentence!

No, I didn't misread it. Because it doesn't apply. My intelligence is unaffected by my opinion and fact.

I respectfully disagree. That USED to be the best rule. But in my case, I indulge in mental beat downs of the deserving, that have subjected me as well as others so much to change the rule, that I REALLY enjoy forcing them to grab crates of tissues for their issues, pampers, puppies and pacifiers and cower away in their safe space (aka mom's basement). lol

I somewhat agree with this statement. A lot of times it is best to just ignore the tolls and get on with life. Other times I agree with you that a verbal dagger to the soul is in order. What is bad though is when I see people respond to the same 8 people complaining about "the issue" by unplugging their beacons or "respond by withdrawing" and essentially shoot themselves in the foot.
liked(1)
I can agree to that as well. It depends upon the situation and the person. Some deserve am onslaught that causes them to run for blue dots for reinforcement, some deserve to be told off and to shut up and move on. Then there's the "copper" type, make false claims and accusations and then run away like a coward.

My absolute faves are the constipated cowards that commit cancel culture with zero communication or justification. They are 100% sheep and social animals that are so anally retentive, they suck up the chair when they sit, demanding you agree with them or die.

I love a healthy debate, intelligent argument or disagreement, it's what makes the world better. More is accomplished by seeing both sides. Though in this day and age, one side is 100% unstable, deranged, spoiled, violent and unable to perform critical thinking. But by disagreeing with them, you are called mentally unstable and lots of other uneducated terms.

So I present logic and indulge in the meltdowns ;-P

Well maybe I should add, that anyone in this discussion, should not be anti-capitalist or socialist. If they are, and are bitching and moaning about NOT making money off of creations they spent time and worked on, is a piece of garbage with zero stake in this topic because they support and actively pursue free everything, spread the wealth and other Marxist Communist garbage.

Jupiter, SL also OWNS anything and everything uploaded. If you read their terms, this has been being applied since about 2010. It was another reason I held back creating new things. Even your pictures you share with friends, they claim ownership. Fartbook does this as well. You foresake any and all rights, once something is uploaded to SL or Fartbook.

OK I've been away alot lately for both RL and work reasons, so I am late replying to this. There is an answer to this, but it's complicated.

First off, SL was originally created back in 98 to test a theory of whether a digital economy could work. What it evolved into and OpenSim began from was simply, bringing creations in for a social purpose. This is the reason no grid will ever get off the ground because they worked backwards.

Yes SL and Opensim are Glorified Chatrooms. You read that correctly. So we went from AOL chatrooms of A/S/L? To a 3rd version and each wanted to up the other with being more fancy pants or cooler. So instead of a flat avatar face next to text, you could now play dress up and stand around one of the bazillion clubs and your avatar could dance while you chatted and gesturbated.

SL evolved into, offering you a more private space to have that chatroom convo and have sexy time, a free sandbox to create something in which 90% of creations were for avatar enhancements (Fashion, Skin, Hair) or actions (Car, House, Plane). 10% was my cornered market until banned (Fun stuff like farters).

Opensim picked up from this point on, where it wasn't about the economy, it was about freedom and independence of the Gestapo Lindens. Now you can be the god, and yes along with it came the god complexes (Originally dictator sim owners, to full fledged whole grid Stalins).

What is missing here? No focus on the economy. Only the social and drama aspect. It is no longer the primary purpose. Creators will build mostly based on demands and needs. As a builder, scripter, animation creator, texture creator, terraformer, etc. yes I can build ALOT, but no longer will I ever do it for SL. I was glad to cash out my Lindens before the 3 new technology impotent owners bought it, because they kept what little I left in it upon being banned for no reason. No biggie, but they lose.

In Opensim, everything that can be god modded, will be copied and the creator almost never compensated in any way shape or form.

Creations can take anywhere from hours to weeks. Based on FJBShittypants we should all be paid like 20 bucks an hour. Anyone here making that much for their creations? No. But I know alot create for fun. Mostly now that is what I do. I don't expect jack shit from payment.

Kitely has a decent plan and idea. However, another aspect that was mentioned here is the Globit versus PayPal. Well as most of you never read real news, the answer to that question is, if you earn more than $600 per year through PayPal, you will be audited by one of the 87,000 IRS just hired. That is the fact Jack, so a measly 600 bucks, will get you an audit. (I have my own software dev company and I have to follow tax laws and assinine shit like this for my main business.) Globeit, is the unregulated wild west. What happened before with cyber currency when the owners shut it down for months with no reason or answer, leaving thousands unable to cash out, can happen with Globeit. You are damned if you do, and damned it you don't.

Hopefully these 87k IRS agents that have been armed with Glocks and body armor to accompany their pocket protectors and birth control glasses, will be fired in November. I can't say the same for the Euro crowd, but England is the worst and Germany is desperately broke and cracking down looking for money. (Example? Harrassing Schwarzenegger over his watch he put up for a charity auction, for not paying duty, when he flew through Munich). So hopefully, if the IRS agents in the US are shitcanned, the Euros usually follow suit.

As for the DMCA, well it's being abused like crazy. Originally intended and created to protect record labels from stolen pirated music. They arrested a dingbat kid for downloading copyrighted songs. Hell some of these asshole artists should be happy someone listens to their 40 and 50 year old shit. I found this out the hard way when I tried to play for someone the theme from Who's the Man and the song was done first by Ed Lover and Doctor Dree. Not House of Pain. I had to go through hoops, and I got it played it and now a whole generation of Zoomers know the original song. Prior to my getting it it had ZERO downloads. So that fat fuck should thank me for advertising his shitty old work. Kate Bush is suddenly getting money and famous again because a TV show played one of her shitty songs from the mid 80s. She was lucky, they paid for the copyright but there is thousands of forgotten artists and movies because of this DMCA bullshit that is abused by everyone and anyone who files a claim. Every hater, punk wiseass and drama queen DMCA each other out of spite a massive amount of the time.

As for the future of making money with Opensim, good luck. Yes you can host a grid, rent land. You can get tips, you might get someone to buy a dress on Kitely MP. Will it pay your mortgage? Nope.

SL originally was one mans idea about an economy, that built into a team that made it happen and expanded then fell off the cliff of focus. I have been working for a few months personally on something that will generate revenue, but I reserve any revelation because I am one person with limited time. The answer is there for anyone who has studied basic business and economics. People need an incentive to build, and people need an incentive to pay. And that's my horseshit and sauerkraut opinion on this.
