Why anyone would come to an amusement park naked is beyond me but apparently it happens? As opposed to what Arielle pointed out: yes sometimes we end up actually naked, seeming naked on our own screen but actually fully dressed, or seeming naked to others when we teleport. I often have to check my inventory to doublecheck my clothes are still on even if I don't see them, and then I can only hope others see them while I happily shop or explore in my birthday suit on my own screen. The joys of Opensim!

I truly wonder how much of this will actually affect Opensim. let's not overlook the fact that this was announced in a talk with Sl creators, who of course expect Linden Labs to take action against their content being stolen. Anyone having worked in corporate environments knows that often, there is a big discrepancy between what the say, and what they actually DO.

Opensim, compared to SL, is really small if you compare the number of users. Its economy is even smaller given that the large majority of its content is offered for free. And the people who do sell stuff for money are usually the actual creator of said stuff. Why set up a large and costly operation to identify and go after copybotted content in Opensim. For Linden labs, it makes a lot more sense to go after the actual copybotting SL accounts and ban them/take legal action where possible. That is overseeable, and eradicates the problem at its root. But once the stuff already is in Opensim? It would be like firing missiles at mosquitos. Too much work, too costly, chances at hitting the actual target are slim and most of all: not worth it. Just my 2 cents.

As I've just posted: The Lab won't go investigate themselves.

"There will be a new category of support ticket added for reporting alleged instances of content theft"

Anyone can squeal on anyone. And they WILL.

I mean, everyone can lie back and relax and say, "They ain't gonna do nothin'."

But it takes one user to file a support ticket on SL about R. Lion or Darkhearts. And that SL assets worth probably over L$1,000,000 are available there for free. Chances are good the whole respective grid will be a goner. And everyone involved will be tracked down by the FBI and, if necessary, international investigators.

One thing I can tell you: The instance that the first OpenSim user is busted for 'botting, all hell will break loose. For one, most of the bigger grids will start scrubbing. But besides, this new support ticket category will be used as a weapon of mass destruction against sims or entire grids by whoever doesn't like them. Freebie store owners will rat on other freebie store owners just to get rid of the competition. Old inter-grid wars will start anew, but this time, there are actually effective weapons with which to destroy both entire grids and their owners once and for all.

See my post above with the linked blog post.

Jupiter, do you really believe what you write here? Secondlife is at the end. Even Roleplayers are gone now. Look in SL. It looks almost empty like opensim. We are the last stand to preserve what Secondlife meant for a generation. Old people now. In 10 years Secondlife won't exist anymore. Perhaps even 5. Look at Worlds com. They shut down their website last year. Worlds com existed 30 years!!!! and was for-runner for Secondlife in the 90s. It looked the same as Secondlife looked in early years and this in the 90s.
Secondlife supported all the decades Firestorm and all around and benefit from all the people who were just there. Not only creators of content. Just to show that lot of people want a VR and have fun with it. Now time is over and even Zuck saw that he threw his billion Dollars for a mateverse in garbage.
Lindenlabs had their time to make money and now the business is over. That's it. Read this article.

Friends Grid is amazing. it runs on kickass hardware, Safine and ZuZu really take care of us and are very helpful if we have a problem, need to find something etc. The free parcels that are as big as a whole Sim let me build, and build, and then some. I love living here, there is so much to do and to explore and the people are great. Highly recommend.

I found a box full at Modaplaza (https://opensimworld.com/hop/91367) so there might be something useful in there :). It's in the section where the mesh bodies, heads etc. are.

Hello Taj, for both buildings and scenery like plants etc. try Trianon's Home & Gardens (https://opensimworld.com/hop/91088). For more buildings that might work; AMv Houses (https://opensimworld.com/hop/84895), Maze of the Mind Free Houses (https://opensimworld.com/hop/92325) or Little Big City (https://opensimworld.com/hop/93291). Animesh animals: Trails (https://opensimworld.com/hop/87715) has a lot of those. Hope you find what you need!

AhAh, I doubt that Google will be able to translate it. Truly. Google will not be able to digest the dialect.

Just one example of words that you can find in the roman of R. Brun. Yenche : the orthographe is an attempt to translate what is said phonetically. It means : «rien que », depending of context it could be translated in English by « only that » or simply « only »

Yes, true. John Lennon's "Imagine" didn't bring world peace, either. But still I believe sharing good vibes and expressing the sentiment that we are SO tired of all the hatred here can't be a bad thing.

Hah. I ripped a copy of me from RL and will be distributing myself here until the original creator files a DMCA ;) But yes, you are so right, Safine. I also agree with Sylvia. Not feeding the trolls will deprive them of the attention they seek and things won't get out of hand or as much as I see happening here a lot. They really are a very small minority, just a really vocal one.

Good morning and Happy New year! I think this is a very valid topic to discuss. I am fairly (about 6 months) new to Opensim. And Marianna is right, it does feel intimidating to see all the amazing work out there, which is why so far I have stuck to being a decorator and landscaper, and modding some of my finds with my own textures, ripping walls out of buildings, that sort of thing. But to create from scratch.. even though I can as long as it's prims/textures etc. I find it hard to start. Why even try to build when there's people out there who do it so much better than I will be able to at least for years to come. I have already benefitted from the "What are you looking for group" which put me in touch with places to get stuff I could not find anywhere on my own, so a big thank you to Nico for that. For me, a Discord group where I could just ask people with way more knowledge than myself for help with issues I encounter would be super helpful. But I also need to be realistic. What I have also found is that the whole "Sharing s caring" concept doesn't go for everyone. Even the 100% ripped from SL stuff that every freebie place offers is often offered as contents only, so without the box, or no transfer and even no modify sometimes making it impossible for others to "share it forward". On one of my first days here someone said to me "it's Opensim, it has more clubs than people" and for a large part, I find this to be true for stores and creations, too. So yes, I fear an initiative like this would wither and die. But I would also LOVE to be proven wrong. Just my 2 cents.

"Sharing is caring" is a 2010s thing. It was pushed so hard for one particular reason: Those who imported SL content wanted it to spread across the freebie stores on the Hypergrid in order to obfuscate how it got into SL in the first place. Hence also "Share with no mercy" and "Share or die".

If something was no-transfer, it was either an original creation, or it was due to licensing, or someone has set full-perm content to no-transfer to make it useless for builders of new and therefore competing freebie sims. As if you couldn't pick the same stuff up elsewhere.

Nowadays, it's very different. The owners of newer freebie stores rip and import their stuff themselves. And they're in direct competition with each other. Everyone wants to offer the newest, hottest stuff a) first and b) exclusively. Including bodies.

You make a lot of good points. I'm not a fan of discord (ironically since I'm on like 80 odd servers) but some sort of repository where people can go to for help would be nice. But that takes us back to the 'withering on the vine' problem.

"What I have also found is that the whole "Sharing s caring" concept doesn't go for everyone. Even the 100% ripped from SL stuff that every freebie place offers is often offered as contents only, so without the box, or no transfer and even no modify sometimes making it impossible for others to "share it forward".

Yeah, that is a valid point, a very fair critique. I'm not touching the issue though because it's getting too far a-field away from the topic of *building* and into *distributing* and more importantly...I don't have the spoons for the ensuing flame war. 😉

Sciattisgrid https://opensimworld.com/hop/93159 has a few of the Lelutka heads out in a 4.0 version with HUD and some options the R.Lion heads don't have. It's a work in progress, they say they are working on bringing more of them. Fastest way to find them is to search for "Avalon" in area search when you land, then TP right to them.

oh thanks, I've been to Sciattisgrid a few times recently but didn't notice if the heads were any different than anywhere else. I'll look again!
