With her gamer Laptop she has always highest 60 fps. It is limited to 60 fps. So perhaps it is better to look with a computer that is not that good for this game. Then you can see much better the differences. For my MacBook Air it is just few fps difference each but I have never more than 30 fps anyway. lol But it is also depending on viewer why I only use 6.6.8 Firestorm. This is the best viewer for my MacBook. All newer drop my framerate.

So sorry. Can happen with every opensimulator software. As long as you have back ups it is ok. Dreamgrid is very easy for any Windows user to handle. You don't need to have Terminal command skills and just click on buttons. Very user friendly. Would be also something for tech blonds like me as Mac User, who doesn't even know how to use a terminal. lol
I hope you get it fixed. Fred did a fantastic job to get it working easily for everyone without being a computer crack.

that's right. I started like everyone with NPCs. But I found out very soon that even 20 NPCs are already taking same performance as if I would have 200 animesh. My Succubus Band was first NPC Band. Just this 5 NPCs on stage drop massive framerate today. Here my very first video with NPC band in Central park. https://rumble.com/v3uhvt2-home-sweet-home-succubus.html

Yes opensim is just laid out for 1x1 sims with islands and a house on it. Then I have also as Mac user 30 fps framerate. But I built my Big City Life to the limit what opensim as stoneage technology is capable of and how to tune it. Also with tuning opensim ini for CPU (which only concerns one core of the whole CPU by the way because opensim is not multithreading able). Phantom buildings and trees are good advice. Also indirect lights for midnight. Not to mention no overlapping of light at street lights etc. It is all already known and even to avoid as far as possible AVsitter and use PMAC. Is all already calculated. And so it is with animesh versus NPCs. It is built to the ultimate limit and it works. Even I can record with my MacBook Air full circuit with my 150 meter long Santa Fe train. https://rumble.com/v63w8lg-full-circuit-with-santa-fe-trai...

yes animesh have much less complexity. Usually you clone your avi to make NPCs. Usually you don't wear painted clothes. For animesh you can care that they wear painted clothes. You care much more for different look. I saw that old ugly animesh had 50 prim impact or more. Is not needed if you create them handmade inworld. 10-15 is enough usually. And if you create them with AI you get also easily animesh with 5 prims and less complexity than a hat I wear. Is also a question with how many triangles you import the dae file figure. I always import with 900/300/100. Is enough for opensim or secondlife. For unity and unreal engine you need 100 times more to look ok. But there we have anyway 64 bit environment and not 16 bit.

Oh Mr Snoodle. I know there is no hate. We are best friends. No worries. But is good that all other know then too.
Arguments are the process of debates. Only this matters.
Now to your suggestions. Yes If you have Avis in Firestorm on no limit and reduce to 16 or less that is moving then you are right that framerate goes up enormously. Default is 16 and I think most people never change it. They won't see all people moving at the Central Park stage. Too big crowd for default in preferences.
But you are right. This is a big problem at 4 places on the sim with big crowds.
But to rez then 80 people at once is an overkill. I have the rezzer and tried out at big stage for audience. Took ages.
For the KFM scripts there is other solution. To tune the opensim ini for more CPU Core power for this sim. The problem is that opensimulator is not multithreading and running on one core in principle. So the opensim ini tuning for CPU is then advantage for my sim but disadvantage of for all other sims on the grid. As long the other sims don'T need much CPU performance it is ok. We had also other solution just to put my sim alone on one grid on other computer. And now Big City Life is also on another grid just on Jimmys super computer he is using as user. lol trains run much faster there as on decadence grid. So it is all possible to get the KFM related scripts running smooth and fast just by tuning the opensim ini for CPU and faster computer.
I had other idea with Tron and you to solve the whole problem just to remove whole land and replace it all with mesh. Then there is still the physics problem but this was then also the idea just to convert all in unity and then give the whole sim just unreal engine. Of course, all the scripts won't run anymore and would have to be made new for unreal engine. But this would be in 5 years or so anyway the case.
It has to stay all realistic as it is. As long Jimmy has framerate of 40 about and I can walk straight with my MacBook air and even can take videos all is fine. In 5 years at least the oar will come in unity and unreal engine will be installed to let it run. that's the plan so far.
here an example with unreal engine for crowd of many people in city https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=pfbid02f...

You just need to get a bit creative with the key frame motion scripts. They can each listen on a specified channel for the name of the note card to run.
You could incorporate a master control script that would rez out a bunch of animesh in an area when someone is near, then regionsay the note card name on the appropriate channel for each key frame motion script to activate. It wouldn't be very hard to have the key frame motion script listen for a die command to remove them when all avatars have left the vicinity. Sure there will be a bit of overhead while loading them in, but it will just be a brief event the occurs when needed, and most of the time when they are not rezzed it reduces the skeleton count and thus gives better FPS.

It didn't seem to matter that the animesh wasn't in my draw distance. The FPS was still low until I hid all the animesh. I'm not on about the max avatars setting. I'm saying completely hiding all animesh from Advanced/Rendering Types/Animesh

I'm sure there is scope to optimize performance if you really wanted to. It wont be a simple task, and many things will need tweaking or redoing entirely. Like I said in my first post. Try and only have moving things that a nearby avatar can actually see from their avatars position. There is no point calculating the movement of a car that is miles away out of sight. Save the CPU cycles and spend them on things avatars can actually see and benefit from.

Instead of having a bus circling the entire region constantly, Have a bus rez out of sight near each bus stop when an avatar is in range. Have the bus drive in from out of view and up to the bus stop and wait for a while for a passenger, if nobody gets on, it will drive off out of sight and despawn. After a few minutes if the avatar is still in the area repeat the process. If a passenger gets on at the bus stop, then it will do the full route, and will despawn shortly after they stand up and they are not near the bus anymore.

The least amount of stuff you have moving the better performance will be.

Anyway that's my thoughts :)

I know what you mean. And I tried out with the rezzer for audience. But it takes ages just to rez them all. And not all animesh are moving directly. Some even stand with spread arms then and stay this way. When you come there and they are all already moving then I can see them all directly. I have no problem with my MacBook to see them directly and all moving. Of course, framerate would be higher as you said. But the sim lived from all the traffic and movements and activity. My sim is called Big City "Life" because it is alive. Not just planted some buildings and streets with trees on a sim without any city feeling. The traffic itself makes it. Not some Skyscrapers that are Lego boxes with textures.
Opensimulator has the option that you can tune one sim for more CPU power especially for all KFM scripts. It is sad that opensimulator is not able for multithreading. But that's how it is. All other sims on the grid don't need so much CPU power. If you have just an island with a house as sim then you don't need much CPU power. So it doesn't matter.
Biggest problem is still other thing for visitors. To load first in cache all the stuff so that it is all rezzzed and you can enjoy a drive. If you have slow internet connection or if many people are on the sim then it can take time. I talk about 5 minutes. But that's why I put the video inworld to watch it first while standing at landing point. You watch the video and in the meantime most is loaded to start. I tried out with empty cache with my MacBook. It works well. For all you PC people with your gamer computers it will be much faster and better anyway. By the way one of my residents has a new Gamer Laptop for 5300 Euro. She has always 60 fps like in games with 1024 draw. So it still works.
When the whole city as oar will be put in unity to convert for unreal engine then I can even have 60 fps like in resident evil .:-) For next generation this will be then same like you play atari games on your PC today.
That's my thoughts.

pro yes. But you can create some for free. To try out. If you don't have enough then you sign in with other email adresse lol

Yes, but I can spin up as many NPCs as I want for free, in perpetua.

If there's another way to make animesh gratis I'd love to hear about it -but I suspect it involves yoinking models into blender and rigging them there?
no you can create by yourself also for free. Handmade inworld. All the models on fashionweek
https://rumble.com/v6669ig-fashion-week-on-park-avenue.htm...
or band members on stage and other in audience are all handmade with ruth and roth body as root prim. Jimmy made them all inworld. Satyr discribed somewhere how to create them inworld. Is not that difficult. Most important is that you have to have all items rigged. Then you can build inworld your animesh

oh no. But good idea. But perhaps it is also shown already somewhere. I only made one video about how to make and use a route script hud and for what it is useful and for what not. Other AI stuff videos just for educational reason. But never for animesh creating. Perhaps Prince Amor could make one how easy it is creating it with meshy AI.
edit:
addendum: I can remember that Satyr explained somewhere how to create animesh people handmade. Jimmy and I learned from it. But must be older on Osgrid forum or so.

Then you have slow internet connection and/or older computer? Yes, this is pity then. I warn to come with older computers or Aldi Laptops. Then you don't have fun on my sim. I walk around with my MacBook Air, which is not a gamer computer and have normal 16 K Internet connection in Germany. For me it is working as you can see in all my videos.
To your sim with 2000 NPCs I would like to see it. For me impossible to believe. Usually if you have 100 avis/NPCs on a 1x1 sim for a party it will crash.

Jupiter, do you really believe what you write here? Secondlife is at the end. Even Roleplayers are gone now. Look in SL. It looks almost empty like opensim. We are the last stand to preserve what Secondlife meant for a generation. Old people now. In 10 years Secondlife won't exist anymore. Perhaps even 5. Look at Worlds com. They shut down their website last year. Worlds com existed 30 years!!!! and was for-runner for Secondlife in the 90s. It looked the same as Secondlife looked in early years and this in the 90s.
Secondlife supported all the decades Firestorm and all around and benefit from all the people who were just there. Not only creators of content. Just to show that lot of people want a VR and have fun with it. Now time is over and even Zuck saw that he threw his billion Dollars for a mateverse in garbage.
Lindenlabs had their time to make money and now the business is over. That's it. Read this article.

They ask me for things I can only say "don't know where you get this ..." I have to tell then, that my Big City is alive and that's why it is called Big City "Life". lol Not Big City Mall to shop.

will be interesting for AI created mesh too. I am curious how this will end there. Is the AI company the creator or the user of the AI to create content? What is a new creation? Like I saw on Kitely Market someone used a mesh you get as raw mesh everywhere, put a texture in it with AVsitter and then sell it. Is this a new creation or just money making with stuff we do every day without thinking when building stuff but because most people like in Secondlife (or Kitely) think it is magic? When I was in Secondlife I was tech blond and all was magic for me. lol But is this really new creation? If AI is just using the skills you can get also as human and is producing modified stuff you can get somewhere is this new creation? For the layman it will be. It is magic. We will see how companies try to make money with it. I guess it won't work. Like we see now in competition the new chinese LLM for free as open source software that shocked Silicon valley and financial market. Secondlife is anyway stoneage technology and there is nothing to expect for the future. Secondlife has just one advantage to all other VR games. It has tons of already existing content. But also not really anymore since we have all the freebe 3D Websites like sketchfab and now also AI websites like Meshy where you can even easily rig your stuff. No Blender even needed.

AFAIK, none of the big names in SL actually make anything themselves. If they don't use AI, and most of those don't because they need much better quality than AI can produce, they have art students in East Asia do the job for them. Usually for free. All they do is rig it if necessary, assemble it, script it if necessary and make box art.

But still, they declare themselves the original creators and exclusive intellectual property holders. And they defend their intellectual property on stuff that they haven't really made.

the single couple walk without NPC Companion you get exclusively only on Big City Life in old town red-light district in the BCL shop. Just on the other side of the street from the Biker Shop where you get Helmets working for Hypergridding.

Buenas noches. Gracias. Saludos.

If you use Dreamgrid then OSSL ini has all on true automatically. So all Dreamgrid Grids use OSSL. No problem. And most grids in opensim are Dreamgrid of Fred. For PMAC 2.8 I use mostly. Is not frozen level. Always further developed by Tron since 2.0 and is very resource friendly. 4 times less performance of CPU needed than AVsitter. If you put lot of AVsitter on your sim then performance of sim is dropping fast. Not with PMAC. If you have a resource heavy sim like me with Big City Life you have to look what scripts you use so that you can still walk straight on your sim. I use PMAC for all. Avoid AVsitter as much as possible.

Is this newer PMAC also available somewhere by any chance?

Alternatively, take a look at Satyr Aeon's SFposer. It's config-compatible with PMAC and a drop-in replacement for PMAC.

Yes SFposer is really good. But I hate the coordinate notecard thing like in AVsitter. I want to place each pose manually with edit function. Is much faster and intuitive. Other like the coordinate notecard thing better. But in principle both is same in truth. SFposer is based on PMAC in origin.

As the furniture owner, you can edit positions with SFposer just like with PMAC. You don't have to edit notecards for that.

All big grids - OSgrid, Wolf, Kitely etc not use Dreamgrid and OSSL is limited.
Yes Dreamgrid is excelent and is thousands grids but ... for example Wolf have many times more SIM and land than all Dreamgrids together.
OSGrid have more users than all Dreamgrid users...

Walter's littlefield uses OSSL and promotes it. What are really big grids? Everyone has OSgrid avi. ok. I use it also to park my Avi on Lbsa while I am on my Sim on a Dreamgrid grid at the same time lol Lonewolf has the biggest Grid that is even bigger than Secondlife. But has only active few people. Kitely I don't know much. I have a resident in my Big City from Kitely with her AI bot who live directly over the street in a house as neighbor :-) But mostly she is anyway in VRchat or cyberpunk 2077 lol

the problem is that many developers create with lsl scripting to sell their stuff in Secondlife. They limit themselves. In opensim you can create much better quality with OSSL scripting. And later the limited quality with lsl scripting through AVsitter comes back here in opensim. Instead to create quality with SFposer, PMAC etc in origin in opensim. Of course, you can't sell this in Secondlife, because in Secondlife all the good scripting doesn't work and in opensim you can't earn money. Secondlife had a lot of benefit from developers in opensim that they only scripted in lsl and not in OSSL.
Having spent years scripting in both SL and OpenSim I'd have to strongly disagree with you. OSSL is a disaster and a mess. SL has experiences (which is implemented in NGC) that largely replace most of what you'd use OSSL for. And as others have pointed out there are no standards for OSSL implementation since the options that are enabled are grid specific.
If you have Dreamgrid of Fred you can adjust all to your specifications. In OSSL ini and opensim ini and all works great. No disaster. If you live on commercial grids in opensim then you may have problems. That can be true. They limit themselves.

yes read it on opensimsocial of Lonewolf already. We have in opensim anyway better options for great scripting with OSSL. Secondlife users don't know what we can do. https://opensimsocial.com/@CherylFurse/113815313077581241 And now we can easily create mesh objects with AI. It won't cost us anything and everyone can do. The business for Secondlife is over anyway. We just need to preserve now for later generation all the good old time. Like Atari games you can get on PC. lol
like(4)
It's that openness I count on.
Whilst the younger generations ( Heck the kids of my schoolmates have outgrown Minecraft by now! ) say that Second Life and thus OpenSimulator are too complicated to use, they basically complain on VRChat and the other pseudo-VR-Worlds about exactly those things lacking, that we expect as the basic functionality in every OpenSimulator and Second Life sim.

When we can bridge the gaps between the top modern technologies such as AI systems for Designs and for NPCs / chatbots, we might entice them to go that little extra step of actually READING the labels on the buttons or just click a symbol and see what happens instead of sitting just sulking in front of the screen and complaining that nothing is happening.
