I guess the mindset of RP standards in opensims is different than in SL. Is what I'm reading here.

Years ago maybe 2007, 2008 there was a few different types in SL example star trek was huge then. Lately like you said not so much. Blame it on the online gaming :) LOL

Most gamers I know want something that is already done and has goals, built in rewards etc. For many, virtual world is a blank slate to create on or make up your own adventure. That drove many gamers out of SL. Additionally, the constantly changing computer requirements in SL were highly problematic. Much more tolerable and stable in OS. Truthfully, you have to have a 1200-2000 dollar machine (or more) to have any sort of good experience that is going to last. And the cost of really getting started in SL is 20-30 dollars. You have to buy a high end Barbie or Ken doll. Unless someone knows how to shop the sales, they are going to spend far more than that. Add the expense of a rental - someone will spend 50-100 to get set up, only to find out they don't like it. And the 20-30 hr learning curve for non gamers with no experience is another investment as well.

It isn't really easy for experienced MMO gamers to get into SL either. No quests, no level-grinding, no stats whatsoever except your L$ account, no railroading, no telling you what to do at all, and the handling of the inventory and the way avatars are built confuses and alienates the hell out of them.

I've once watched a video of a Swedish gamer who tries out SL for the first time. He spends some ten minutes aimlessly derping around the same he has landed on. He absolutely had no clue what to do and how to do it. He obviously hadn't read anything about SL because why read up when you can rely on learning-by-doing tutorials? Only that SL doesn't railroad you into a tutorial because it doesn't have one in the first place. So after these ten minutes, he quit because SL sucks.

9 out of 10 new SL users only log in once and then never again.

Even Star Trek Online alienated and lost alot of members. I was one of them, and the reason is they will not accept anyone using Windows 7 Pro anymore. Most likely because Windows 8 on up sucks and is spyware and crappier. But Activision was bought out by Microcrap and probably forced us to either upgrade to their garbage spyware or leave. MOST,like myself, left.

I do miss it, but it was getting lame. I have a whole fleet, but the PVP ground combat was almost non existent because a few douchebags ruined it for everyone with spawn camping.

Sadly there long gone, I'm familiar with the grid. There player list is small and transferred from SL. The grid may be still alive but players not so much.

Kindra Turian still seems pretty active and the grid is ranked as 92nd in traffic. Maybe they are no longer so active on OSW but not dead. https://opensimworld.com/hop/75982

I understand, So another words you have 5 friends acting like there is a role play but in reality your just having fun.

I'm not sure I understand your reply, Joe? Is roleplay not supposed to be fun? At its best it is good street theater and the number participating should not matter.

Agreed. As one of those players, I wonder what your definition of rp is, Joe. I thought it was ongoing, connected storyline; good theater; progression and evolution of characters and plot. Then there are rpg's, which are different, of course. I was in a group in OS that moved to a tabletop platform because they were on a really terrible grid and didn't know better. I still play. But I will say, this will be the last D&D campaign I will be in. Wizards of the Coast have just made it too tedious. I was playing at the very beginning when we made up our own campaigns. I will stick with slimmer worlds - like Shadowrun and Cthulhu. Even so, ngl, I HATE the tabletop platform LOL.

Correct Fith: Quality before quantity. I learned that since sl where mainly dramas wanted to join, and get a leading role the first day like"Hey.. I want to start as Captain..lets fight the Borg". This is not RP. Good RPlers have also a good community. Maybe for Joe a "good" RP is only at his sims. Only so I can explain that reactions he also did years ago at other sims. Kinda like: Only how I understand a good rp, is a good rp

I did have ex-slers in my grid 8 in total from a star wars sl faction problem was they decided 8 people with different times restraints was not acceptable for them and no one wanted to recruit. I told them all from day 1 I'm only a builder I do not RP and there free to do as they like. anyways it didnt work out same as my star trek fleet which in fact was and still is if i decide to put it online surpasses SL. People who come to opensims sadly don't have the RP mentality. Dance Dance and more Dance is there interest..

And why do you then review at my sim (with zero stars) that Star Trek has to be on ships?? Star Trek shows in many films about supply stations / headquarters! Do some thinking before a nonsense review about a sim with an active rp with people who like it so!

I been here in Opensims 14 years and only did I see one Grid have a small group of role players. That was a Star Trek themed grid many many years ago. One has to figure at least 60 plus people have to be involved being not all are online at any given time. And a few people in such a large build is not going work well. Not to mention the interests, Now like SL back in the day :) there was around 50k online at any given day unlike Opensims where there is maybe 1000 in all 2000 plus grids currently online. I applaud grids trying to get people to join there grid in anyway they can. But like I said RP sadly in reality don't work. I know I been trying but lately lately not to hard with my 2 grids dedicated to RP.

I think its all nonsense, Who?? Police's what is sold on Kitely.

No one polices it and i personally think that's partly why people rip the creators off on kitely. opensim is not connected to the marketplace in sl but its connected to kitely marketplace in some form or way. I dont get why people would want to rip creators off in kitely, and yes i know they have done it with sl copybotted stuff. But some of us pay good money for things we buy on kitely.

but we al know no one really polices that stuff or its happened so much they get tired of it.

However if people keep ripping off creators, eventually those creators wont make anything new and we will be stuck with old stuff.

The whole fun about opensims is the ability to explore if it wasn't for that its just boring. Most if not all grids have places to shop. I would not suggest one grid rather than the other for Items of need.
