Paha Sapa (Black Hills, in the Lakota language) is a role play community located in the virtual world Kitely, which is a part of the OpenSimulator hypergrid metaverse.
The sim (16 regions, 1,048,576 sq.m) has a fort, a town, and five Native American villages: three Lakota (Oglala, Brule, Sihasapa), two Cheyenne, and one Crow.
Historically realistic and educational Native role play, with emphasis on family and tribal life in a Native American tribe, framed by the real life events and attitudes of the 1870's in North America.
*Please have a genuine interest in realistic historical role play, if you apply to join us. This is NOT shoot-em-up cowboys and Indians role play! Though there is historical conflict, your role play is expected to honor the Native Americans, not to depict them as an "Old West" media caricature. Expect to live as a real Native American of the 19th Century, with all that this entails.
OOC gatherings and story tellings are held monthly on a Saturday, and other social events are held monthly on Friday evenings.
While allowing for real life commitments and other interests, we ask that members please try to role play here (whether as Indigenous, soldiers or settlers) at least once or twice per week. A tribe with active members is a living tribe, and happy tribe.

Western role play. Native Americans and settlers, U.S.Army (Fort Wales).

Where: Paha Sapa
When: 13 days ago [30 Jul 2022 18:00 SLT]

Come and join us when Mato Sapa is reading "Crazy Horse and Custer: The Parallel Lives of Two American Warriors". The full story of what led Crazy Horse and Custer to that fateful day at the Little Bighorn, from bestselling historian Stephen E. Ambrose. Everyone is welcome. Please have voice activated, and speakers "on", to hear the story.

On the sparkling morning of June 25, 1876, 611 U.S. Army soldiers rode toward the banks of the Little Bighorn in the Montana Territory, where 3,000 Indians stood waiting for battle. The lives of two great warriors would soon be forever linked throughout history: Crazy Horse, leader of the Oglala Sioux, and General George Armstrong Custer of the Seventh Cavalry. Both were men of aggression and supreme courage. Both had become leaders in their societies at very early ages; both had been stripped of power, and in disgrace had worked to earn back the respect of their people. And to both of them, the unspoiled grandeur of the Great Plains of North America was an irresistible challenge.
